Acne Home Remedies

By Kevin Simons

Anyone who has suffered from acne knows how scarring it can be both physically and emotionally. Not everybody reacts well to the medications currently on the market for acne. In this case, it might be worth looking into a home remedy for acne or alternative methods.

Foods high in saturated fat and also foods high in sugar and refined carbs are a possible cause of acne. Although some people don't agree on this, there is a lot of evidence pointing in this direction.

As for grease - well if you surf the internet on this subject - you will find many people who will tell you that cutting down on grease made a big difference for them. Also there are many who will tell you that lack of sleep and stress will bring about flare ups.

Personally, I think it is a good idea to avoid these foods as one aspect of your acne treatment to see if it can help. Also, these foods should be avoided for a variety of other health reasons.

Fortunately there is something less controversial - and that is nutrition for healthy skin.

Vitamin A is needed to protect the skin. A deficiency of vitamin A can lead to rough, dry and cracked skin. Furthermore, it helps reduce the production of sebum. Too much sebum production is one fundamental cause of acne.

Vitamin E is one of the many antioxidants essential for a strong immune system. Vitamin E in conjunction with vitamin A has healing effects for the skin. So both these vitamins are found in many skin care products. Also like vitamin A, vitamin E helps to inhibit some of the production of sebum.

Zinc can be helpful in preventing inflammation and flare ups in the skin. Zinc is also an important mineral needed for skin to heal and to reduce the effects of scarring.

Juicing:

Vitamins A and E and the mineral zinc can be found in many fruits and vegetables in high quantities. Berries, carrots, broccoli and dark leafy greens are all great sources of these nutrients. Juicing is also hydrating, which is important for good skin.

The Homeopathic HCG Diet, Day 10

By Amelia Handley

I can't believe it's been 10 days. That's a week and a half. And I've made it so far. Not only have I made it, but I've lost 9 pounds.

I got up and got on the scale today and I was at 162.2. Not horrible (I didn't go up), but not great because I didn't go down either. I told myself that less than one pound of weight lost in a day was meaningless and I wouldn't mention it, but apparently I'm going to anyway. (I did go down by .6 of a pound). I checked and I didn't eat anything too horrible yesterday. I stuck to the diet.

It must be that I'm eating portions that are more than a single serving (per the HCG obesity protocol, that is). I'm going to be more careful and start measuring stuff as I eat. I think it might be all the soups I've been having. I bet I'm serving too much up for myself each time. I'll watch it from now on. And just in case it's not the serving size I'm also going to increase my water. Why not, right?

I decided that I don't like my original idea of carting the huge cups of water around with me. I've spilled a few and since they're HUGE they make a huge mess. So far I've had to sop up large amounts of water from the living room carpet, a stack of books in my son's room and the laundry room floor. That's just annoying so I'm switching to water bottles.

So I've been carting around a water bottle. I did take my HCG morning, noon and night. I took my B-Total Sublingual before lunch. (I usually take it in the morning, but I was having a lazy morning so I waited for my energy boost until I was actually going to get up and about for the day). For lunch I had leftover soup (an appropriate portion).

My daughter had a friend come over to spend the night and even though I told myself it wouldn't cause a hiccup in the HCG obesity protocol...it eventually did. I started off well with grilled chicken and asparagus for dinner. I was going to have some strawberries or an apple later that night because we were going to watch a movie and I thought that would keep me from reaching for the popcorn. But then a funny thing happened. The girls wanted to make cookies instead of watch a movie. I thought that sounded like an appropriate sleep over activity so I got them all set up to make sugar cookies. It was a rough 2 minutes before I totally broke down and had one. What was I thinking? I did skip my fruit. Do you think that makes up for the lapse? I know...absolutely not. But at least I tried.

It wasn't the best HCG day. But I'm getting right back on track tomorrow for sure. I'm sure the HCG obesity cure can still help me out even though I messed up and probably won't lose any weight tomorrow. I have to say that the sugar cookies didn't taste near as good when I knew I wasn't supposed to have them! - 17273

Yeast Free Diets - Do All B-Vitamins Come From Yeast?

By Matt Bournston

Okay, so you've recently started on a yeast-free diet, or you're thinking about starting on one. Whichever of those applies to you, you may be wondering about B-vitamins, since brewer's yeast is one form of B-vitamins. So you're probably wondering: do all B-vitamins come from yeast?

The answer is: no. Although brewers yeast is itself very high in B-vitamins, this does not mean this is the only source of them. They are also found in liver, whole-grain cereals, nuts, rice, eggs, milk, fish, meat, leafy green vegetables, fruits, and many more foods. So it's more about where you get your B-vitamins from, rather than B-vitamins themselves being made from Yeast. If you avoid Brewer's Yeast, then you should be fine.

More about B-vitamins:

The Vitamins B Complex category contains 8 different water soluble vitamins. They were originally thought to be just one single vitamin when they were first discovered. But then they realized they were in fact chemically different substances that happen to exist in the same foods.

The B-Vitamins are:

B1: Thiamine, B2: Riboflavin, B3: Niacin/Nicotinamide, B5: Pantothenic Acid, B6: Pyridoxine/Pyridoxal/Pyridoxamine, B7: Biotin, B9: Folic Acid, Vitamin B12.

Health Benefits of B-Vitamins

* Proper metabolism and energy

* Healthy skin and muscles

* Healthy nervous system and immune system.

So hopefully this has put your mind at rest that just because you will be following a strict yeast free diet, this does not mean you will have to miss out on your all important B-vitamins. B-vitamins come in many different forms that are free from yeast. Living on a yeast free diet is easy once you get used to it. - 17273

Suffering From Vitamin Deficiency

By Weber Hoffer

For us to keep our body and minds healthy and in good shape, we need to provide them with the vital nutrients and food they require. Vitamins are essential for the development of we humans and all life in the planet, their name clearly implies that.

Most people acquire vitamins through good nutrition and a well rounded dietary regime, still, in some cases people don't get enough vitamins, this could happen because of malnutrition, but it can also appear as a result of poor absorption problems and diets with some lacks.

As an example of incomplete diets we have vegan and vegetarian diets, many people only look at the benefits of such diets, but these people are the ones more prone to develop B12 deficiency problems unless they get proper supplementation, since B12 is found in animal food.

What happens if we don't get enough vitamins? We soon develop the vitamin deficiency symptoms. These symptoms can vary greatly and will depend on what is the action of the vitamin we are lacking, if it affects bones we'll have bone density problems.

Vitamin deficiencies are treated through proper supplementation over a period of time. For the treatment, the doctor will first need to evaluate the severity of the deficiency and then act according to the data gathered.

Nowadays we can encounter different kinds of supplements, such as oral pills, sublingual vitamin drops or tablets and even injections that provide vitamins straight to the bloodstream. For example, B12 shots are used to elevate levels of energy in the body.

We need to also recognize that sign and symptoms are not exclusive to a deficiency in a certain vitamin. They are signs that can also be caused by other conditions. To dissipate your doubts, it is better to get the help of a proper doctor. - 17273

Some Great Tips for Losing Weight

By Dyan Pascal

Finding good information on losing weight can be very difficult with all the bad advice that's floating around the internet. Most people find that even by cutting back on fatty foods, they still have a hard time losing weight. They don't realize that you can't just switch from eating unhealthy foods to healthy foods and hope to start losing weight overnight. What happens when you eat unhealthy foods is that your system starts to get gummed up.

If you eat unhealthy, your body's digestive system starts to build up a gross, gum-like substance inside. The gum can then turn into plaque if it's not addressed over time. It can then become infestations of parasites. The plaque, gum and parasites have an effect on the body that can't be countered by eating low-fat foods.

A good analogy is to think of your teeth. Let's say you've been eating foods that are bad for your teeth all your life. You look in the mirror one day and find that your teeth are beginning to change color. If you were to change your eating habits, it would still take a long time for your teeth to look white again.

Fortunately, with your digestive system, it doesn't have to be that way. By using specially-formulated diets designed to empty out your digestive system's unhealthy gunk, you can quickly clear out your body's stored up toxins. Once you've gotten your system cleaned up, it's also important to keep your system clean and not just remove all the junk, only to start filling up with it again. Keeping your system clean will allow you to burn fat and lose weight much more quickly.

Once you get the unhealthy "gunk" out, you have to keep your body in healthy condition. If you start eating unhealthily again, the gunk will come back just as quickly. Having a good, easy diet plan is the only way to make sure that your system stays in great shape. You need to construct an easy diet plan that you can follow for a long time without too much effort.

People usually don't want to put much effort into losing weight, they want it to happen instantaneously, and never have to worry about it again. If you go back to eating the way you used to, chances are that you'll gain your weight back just as quickly. The diet you choose should help you keep the weight off, as well as nourish your body for years to come. It should be easy and fun for you, so that you won't ever want to go back to your old eating habits.

If you take up this natural method of losing weight, you'll find that you never have to go near a diet pill again. Most people underestimate how unhealthy diet pills are. Generally, diet pills either reduce your appetite for food, or destroy fat cells in an unnatural manner. The only way to really lose weight and keep it off is to clean out your system and start nourishing it.

Once you understand and start to adopt this method of weight-loss, you'll find that your weight will naturally drop, pound by pound. The weight you lose will also stay off, because what you're doing is actually healthy and nourishing. You'll get to enjoy the inner satisfaction of knowing that you're treating your body well. - 17273

The Role Nursing Will Play in Health Care in the Future

By Sophie Peters

What do the changing trends tell us about the future of nursing careers? In the next decade or two, it might look very different from what we see today. With new technologies, advancements in drugs and treatments, changes in healthcare policy, insurance policies and coverage, it it likely that the healthcare profession including nursing would have to reinvent itself. As an example, as technology continues to advance many healthcare functions can become automated. These include patient records, medical documentation, and use of smart beds used to monitor patients' vital signs, more use of bar coding, and automated medicine carts which could be used to cut down time and reduce errors that result from dispensing medical drugs. In addition, voice-activated technology can be used to reduce the amount of written documentation. Tasks such as serving meals can also be taken over by trained medical aids in order to free up nurses to provide the human touch to their patients.

Given the state of nurse shortages, hospitals and other health care establishments will have to use their available nurses more discerningly. Nurses are likely to be tasked with spending more time at the bedside serving as healthcare educators care coordinators. This will enhance their roles with their patients. With hospital stays getting shorter as medical costs rise, nurses will be placed in the situation of making the most of the amount of time they spend with their patients. Nursing professionals will more likely also shift administrative and supervisory roles, taking on more responsibilities. With that, they would need to know how to quickly access and retrieve relevant information and knowledge with their patients and loved ones.

The diversity of the healthcare workforce is also likely to increase as technology also continues to advance. This means that more emphasis will also need to be placed on increasing the teaching nursing staff through recruitment and retention in order to relieve the strain and shortage of faculty members. Further, loans and financial scholarships at the graduate level, (both PhD and Masters) will also need to be made available so as to encouraged already qualified medical and healthcare professionals to consider the teaching profession. In addition, medical programs will also have to be willing to offer higher compensation to the staff in order to encourage them to stay.

If the nursing shortage continues, hospitals may have to be reserved only for the very sickest. That means that the number of outpatient care will increase, as will the need for home health care nurses. They will also serve more prominent roles in clinics, consulting firms, insurance companies, and software and technology companies. Nurses in the future would probably do much more population-based or community health care. They will identify risks and establish priorities for specific populations and groups. They will provide community education and work with employers and insurance payers to develop programs that save money as well as promote health.

Medical personnel who work in gerontology and geriatrics, for example nurse practitioners also face what would be considered a bright future in terms of their careers. With people in the baby boom generation reaching retirement medical professionals will be required to focus on patients in this generational group. Further, nurses who are also baby boomers might not be ready to retire and may find themselves in a role of consulting. They would serve as healthcare providers who they themselves understand the needs of their patients better.

As medical research and technology advances, nurses will focus considerably on prevention rather than treatment. Further, medical drugs that target diseases before they start, and identifying risks will also enhance preventative healthcare. This will require patient to take a more active role in learning about taking better care of themselves to prevent illness. This healthcare shortage and the cost of healthcare will also add pressure to the healthcare system to concentrate prevention and wellness models of care.

Regardless of what the future of healthcare holds, nurses and other medical professional will need to be prepared for the expanding and changing roles. They will need to remain lifelong learners in order to remain up-to-date with the medical field. As you can imagine, that comes easier when one is passionate about their profession. - 17273

Article 18: Day 4 on HCG's Low Calorie Diet

By Amelia Handley

So this morning in my Google Alert I got some interesting information about HCG Diet Direct. (I set up a google alert for them when I was researching various distribution companies for HCG). They are now ranked #1 in the diet and weight loss category at Ranking.com and they score a 10 out of 10 at TrustGauge.com. I had to call Lisa so she could pass the word on to her malcontent husband. He doubted my ability to judge the authenticity of a company online when I was talking Lisa into doing the diet with me. That's such a perfect "I told you so" moment that I just couldn't pass it up!

Now on to the next item on the agenda. I've created a bit of confusion with the numbering of my days on the diet. I'll clarify. I've actually been on the diet for 6 days. I've been on the low calorie portion of the diet for 4 days. There were 2 days in the beginning that were definitely NOT low calorie days. They're called loading days. They talked about it in all the HCG diet reviews, but it was definitely a unique experience. You have to eat as much high calorie, high fat foods as possible. It helps your body absorb the HCG.

So...instead of saying Day 4 I'll say it's Day 6! I got up and weighed myself. I went up, dang it! I'm at 164 pounds now. It's only fair, I suppose. I did fall off the wagon on Saturday (only for 5 minutes, but it was 5 minutes that involved Chick-Fil-A and Panda Express and that's substantial even if it's only a few bites). As punishment I'm no longer allowed in the mall food court until the diet is complete. I'm honest enough to admit that I'm not strong enough to sit and watch the kids eat their lunches and stick to water. Yikes! Don't hate me; at least I admit it!

I didn't let the gain get me down. I took my HCG and I tried to drink a lot of water. For lunch I had one of my "leftovers." Whenever I make one of the recipes I try to make extra and save them in individual sized Tupperware. That makes it easy to pull out, warm up and have HCG approved lunch or dinner within minutes. It's very handy. You should try it. This time I had Turkey Chili. With the chili I had Spicy 3 Pepper Melba Toasts and an apple with lemon. You'll be surprised how different the apple is after you cut it up and squeeze lemon on top. It's yummy.

I went to the store and bought these huge plastic cups so that I can cart them around the house with me during the day. I think it helps me drink more water. So I think I'm doing pretty good on that one aspect of the diet. I tried a new recipe for dinner. It was Rosemary and Chicken. But I messed it up. I didn't notice the whole "marinate" step until it was definitely too late to marinate. So it wasn't surprising that this wasn't my favorite HCG meal. I'll have to try it again and follow the instructions!

The other "new" thing I tried today was Red Zinger tea. I'm still struggling to find an herbal tea that I can get attached to; so far no dice. This one was better than Green Tea, but nothing I'd smile about. I'll have to check out some more HCG diet reviews and see if there's some type of herbal tea out there that everyone loves. Too bad I can't just substitute hot chocolate, but that would be defeating the entire purpose. - 17273

Eating Healthy - The Real "change Of Life"

By Adriana Noton

When our parents were growing up, eating healthy actually wasn't too difficult. Processed foods really hadn't hit the market yet, fast food restaurants were few and far between, and the worst things they could do their healthy was pretty much using too much fat or butter in the cooking. Milk was delivered almost daily, and juices were squeezed fresh. Mom might sneak in some bacon or sausage at breakfast, but compared to some of the junk we expose ourselves to nowadays, that wasn't all that bad.

Meats were fresh, produce was fresh, eggs and milk were fresh. Today, even though we still buy fresh foods, our freezers are much larger but they are full of frozen prepackaged dinners, frozen juice, ice cream, frozen burgers and hot dogs, and all sorts of frozen snack foods for the kids after school.

Fast forward to the 21st century and things are so different - not only in schools but in restaurants, home life and on the road. Our lives are hectic so instead of cooking we order take out. Rather than finding time for a healthy breakfast we grab a muffin or breakfast sandwich that has enough cholesterol to cause permanent damage to our livers and gallbladders.

The trouble with all this is that these foods that cause so much damage to our bodies are just so good! It seems the better they taste the worse they are for our health. Even though we all know that fresh green vegetables are the way to go, many of us can't gag down broccoli without a stick of butter or half pound of melted cheese on top... Killing the entire reason for eating the broccoli to begin with.

It's not easy to explain to kids, or anyone, that looking like a model doesn't mean you're healthy. If they are "lucky" enough to be able to live on tacos and burgers and pizza and still wear a size two, there are very few kids who even think of admitting that their health might be at risk, and then continue eating the same foods well into their adult lives until... A major crisis erupts, and it won't be good.

Another person might have a salad every day for lunch, but that salad could be covered with regular blue cheese dressing. Her friend might have a chicken breast and a vegetable - which is much healthier in the long run, saving over 500 calories and about 14 grams of fat.

Too often people, especially thin people, refuse to pay much attention to their poor diets and food intake until it's too late. As long as they look good, they are sure they are healthy. They feel good, they look good, so they figure everything is good.

Learning to eat healthy can be a tough choice, but it's even harder to keep the promise you made to yourself. Following a healthy diet for a week is different than adopting a significant life change. Unfortunately for many, the life change might be the "end of life". - 17273
