The reminder is simple yet profound and that is that YOU ARE IN CHARGE. You can turn poor health around by going to the root cause of all disease: bad digestion. Bad digestion simply means youve run out of or are very low in digestive enzymes and minerals. Your job now is to eat whole, organic, take digestive enzymes every time you eat and combine your foods properly.

When denatured or mineral-depleted foods are the mainstay of the body, the body uses it's supply of pancreatic enzymes to move a bolus of food through the body at any given time. As the body supply runs low food putrefies, disease sets in, the body has little or no energy to heal or restore homeostasis and a person finds themselves in a crisis.

The most intelligent line of defense in a crisis is to mineralize and rest the body. This point in a persons life can be a real blessing. It may change their life for the wonderful simply because of the marvelous miracles that they will experience. The idea is to eat as much organic raw as possible. Not only is juicing the most effective way to put minerals in and replenish, a juicer is the best pharmacy you can go to. And you dont have to be sick to juice. Mothers should be juicing every day for the healthy and vibrant future of their children.

There are some really tasty juice combinations. In our home we love carrots, a cucumber, a green apple, celery, spinach, fennel and watercress. The cucumber and green apple lend a lot of juice and cut any heaviness in the carrots and spinach. Carrots are rich in beta carotene, great for the immune system, spinach is rich in folic acid, vitamin E and a great blood builder, celery is rich in potassium, fennel great for the digestive system and cucumber promotes beautiful skin.

There are many great books on health food store and the Amazon shelves about juicing. Grab a few and use them until the pages look like the juices you're making. Here are a few simple mixes I love: 1. Arthritis: handful of cherries, a handful of blueberries, and pineapple. Also try: pineapple, 6 carrots, and a handful of spinach. 2. Beautiful Skin: 2 Cucumbers, handful of parsley, 7 carrots, a green apple and kale, 3. Blood Building: 7 carrots, 1 beet with the greens and a handful of parsley. Add a green apple if you like. These three are only a taste of the many juice recipes you can play with. You will create many of your own favorites

Always use organics. To juice non-organic is to ingest an inordinate amount of pesticides in one or two gulps. Pesticides are oil based and most plants are sprayed (grapes) up to thirty times in a growing season. The oil base ensures water will not rinse it off. So juice organic and allow the fresh healthy juice to revitalize and mineralize your body.

Although you can have some lifeless in your diet; make 75% real and live food. As Earth Day is on our minds, take a stand for organic, both for fabrics and foods. Ask store owners to make sure that they do not stock genetically engineered, seedless varieties. Remember that the middle isles of stores contain lifeless food. Eat around the periphery of any store. Quality life as we age depends on replenishing the body storehouses of minerals and enzymes.

Often misunderstood, because of the way most people interpret feeling bad, is the way the body seeks to heal and add quality years to the particular person involved. Termed the Healing Crisis, it is the bodys attempt to throw off toxicity and get the rest imperative for healing.

Colds and influenza is actually the body's attempt to cleanse. Working with that process means rest and lots of fluids. Unknown to many frequenters of fast food chains, symptoms that appear as flu-like for them are really food poisoning.

During anytime of healing, even in the case of serious illnesses, cleansing the body with organic juicing or supervised water fasting (not recommended without support) colon hydro-therapy or other safe, time tested and success proven methods are suggested to work along with the natural process of the body.

There are many misconceptions about eating and health. One of the most common assumptions is the emphasis on the quantity of food people eat. Although, this may be a valid consideration, it is more important to be concerned about the quality of foods that we consume. The body has a homeostatic, or balancing mechanism that will affect hunger and satiety centers of the brain if nourished properly. When eating the appropriate foods, the bodies innate intelligence will tell you to stop eating when it has the correct nutrients. The following is a list of general guidelines one can follow to obtain a good foundation.

The foods we ingest eventually affect every cell in our body. You truly are what you eat. When shopping, don't put anything in your basket that wasn't around 10,000 years ago! i.e. fruits, grains, vegetables and seeds. As a general rule, only buy items that are on the periphery of the store. These are your basic foods groups. Foods that are eye level are foods that the manufacturer wants you to buy, not necessarily good for you. The same thing goes for your children; foods at their eye level are usually of poor nutritional value. Stick to the basics. Buy foods that are fresh. Try to omit junk foods or food that is highly processed.

Read the labels. If you can't pronounce the ingredients, you probably shouldn't buy it. Foods that say hydrogenated should be avoided. They compete for sites in the brain where good fats are used and may cause neurodegenerative diseases. Buy foods that are full of nutrients. Vegetables and Fruits, preferably organically grown, are the best choice. Stay away from vegetable and fruits that have been sprayed with pesticides or grown in soils that have all the minerals taken out. A good place to obtain these is a good health food store or the natural food section of your grocery store. I prefer to steam or saute my vegetables and then add some spices, this assures that the vitamin and minerals don't get affected like the other cooking methods. Whole grain cereals, breads and crackers, eggs and poultry, and cold-water fish are foods that one should consume on a daily basis.

For snacking, I would recommend raw nuts and seeds, yogurt and other natural dairy products.

Eliminate most foods that are white. White bread and flour, sugar and all foods made with them. These foods are full of "empty calories". Cakes, cookies, pastries, crackers, pies, doughnuts, hamburger buns have virtually no nutritional value. These foods can actually rob your system of essential nutrients. Instead eat foods with brown or basmati rice, whole grain breads or bean sprout breads, whole grain pasta and whole grain cereals. Avoid "enriched" flour some whole grain labels read, as it may really be white flour.

Use natural sweeteners such as honey or concentrated fruit juices. Avoid synthetic sweeteners and sugar.

It is important to obtain good sources of proteins, which are the building blocks for all the enzymes, hormones, antibodies and neurotransmitters in the body. Some good sources are eggs, nuts and seeds, cold-water fish, beans, peanuts, lentils, sunflower seeds, shellfish and some cheeses (cheddar, Swiss).

Eat natural fats, such as clarified butter instead of margarine. Nuts are also a good source of fats, like almonds. Olive oil may be used on salads, but avoid heating it as it becomes rancid at high temperature. Try to stick to oils that are liquid at room temperature as a rule. We should take a page from our European friends that our meals should take place in a calm surrounding and it is an event that should be enjoyed and savored. Take the time to chew your food thoroughly and take breaks throughout your meal. Our society is becoming more fast paced and meals are "gobbled" down.
