Can You Lose Weight On The Grapefruit Diet

The grapefruit diet is one of the earliest known Hollywood fad diets. It dates back to the'30s, and many Hollywood stars of the time swore by it. It remained popular until the mid-1970s, when it became one of the diets that was faxed around from machine to machine, popularly known as xerox lore. The diet is attributed to the Mayo Clinic, which clearly states that it has nothing to do with this diet and that the diet is not good.

The grapefruit diet is essentially like the Atkins diet with the addition of a grapefruit before each meal. The diet only allows three meals each day, with no snacking in between meals. Supposedly a person on this diet could lose 10 pounds in only 10 days.

The distribution was just as far fetched no weight loss for four days then five pounds lost all on the fifth day. Supposedly grapefruit contains enzymes that destroy fat, but no study has ever proven that to be true.

In 2004 it was proven that the diet may work. 1/2 grapefruit with each meal helped people lose 3.6 pounds in only 12 weeks. Drinking the juice from the grapefruit led to only slightly less weight loss. Some people in the study lost as much as 10 pounds in the 12 week period.

Researchers attributed the weight loss to decreased insulin levels caused by eating grapefruit. However, all the participants slightly enhanced their exercise programs, which may account for the lost weight.

Here's a typical grapefruit diet:

- Eight 8 ounce glasses of water each day, this is a must. - Stop eating when full. - Eat all the food listed at each meal, skipping food interferes with fat burning. - Grapefruit is the key so eat that as specified. - Drink only up to 1 cup of coffee at meals. - No snacking. - Butter is OK. - Do not eat desserts, breads, white vegetables, or sweet potatoes. - Meat and vegetables are fine. - Eating more will actually result in more weight loss. - Follow the diet for 12 days, skip two days, then start again. - Eat one half grapefruit, or drink' ounce glass of grapefruit, with each meal.

Not Just HCG Detox Drops...

Alright...this is article 2 in the series devoted to my progress through the HCG diet through HCG Diet Direct. I've already figured out that I don't want to work with any HCG weight loss clinics. The Root Cause of Overweight Conditions

When I first started studying nutrition and natural healing, the saying was, Death begins in the colon. Now, with more research it is more correctly said that death begins with bad digestion. In fact the cure of disease really begins with better nutrition and more efficient ways to combine those nutrients. Why?

First of all lets talk why proper foods and the right combinations make all the difference, especially when a person shows symptoms of disease.

The glands in the mouth that produce enzymes are the parotid, the submaxillary and the sublingual. Small ducts then download the important digestive juices into the mouth. Even if enzymes were not produced, the saliva in the mouth makes it possible to swallow food because of the lubrication.

So then, we can say digestion begins in the mouth; and actually, that process starts with what the nose smells. Think of what happens when you smell turkey cooking. Your mouth begins to salivate, right? Salivary amylase in the mouth begins the breakdown of carbohydrates. That process, with carbohydrates is completed in the small intestine.

Carbohydrates begin digesting in the mouth, not so with proteins. Chewing proteins alerts nerves in the stomach to begin creating hydrochloric acid, imperative in the digestion of proteins. When HCL is at a low, something that happens to most people as they age, then the other component in digesting proteins, pepsinogen wont work properly. HCL stimulates pepsinogen to turn into pepsin.

The small intestine is the major digestive organ in the body. It begins at the pyloric sphincter, a valve-like gate way leading from the stomach to the duodenum, the first section of the small intestine, and ends at the ileocecal valve. Small bits of food at a time are digested in the duodenum, the first segment of the small intestine. The pyloric sphincter, the gatekeeper between the stomach and the small intestine only allows small amounts in at a time so that the digestive juices, enzymes produced by the pancreas and the liver have ample time to be produced, meet in the hepatopancreatic duct, and then travel to the duodenum through the hepatopancreatic ampulla.

Why is all of this important to good health and the healing process? Once food begins to sit too long in any area of the GI tract it begins a process called putrefaction. This is the beginning of disease and the acid conditions in the body that cause every disease. When food is combined properly, when nutrition is readily available from the food we eat, then healing can happen, cell regeneration occurs and creativity flows.

Even if medicine is able to suppress the body's reaction to any pain or discomfort, the symptom which is really an alert that there is a problem, the underlying cause is still there. The underlying cause is bad digestion. The result is a polluted system, then ensuing illness.

The assimilating factor in the small intestine, which spans the many feet of the small intestine is aided by the finger-like projections called villi and micro-villi, and is slowed immeasurably when the body gets bogged down with days old undigested waste. Get Muscles Even When You've Got a Too Fast Metabolic Rate

If you've got a very high metabolism, it can be difficult to develop muscles. Even if you're a "hardgainer," though, you can follow routines that will still help you build muscle and gain weight. One of the major things you have to remember is that you can't lift too much too soon, because you tend to overtrain quicker than someone else who isn't a hardgainer.

Advancements will only be destabilized if you insist on overtraining. If you feel that you are overtraining (look out for loss of sleep, loss of appetite, unexplained fatigue, unintended weight loss, and very slow or non-existent gains in poundage), then you need to cut back on your training schedule.

One of the major things to keep in mind is that if you have a tendency to overtrain, cut yourself off from exercise after an hour, less if you need to. If you don't, remember that you are going to make all of the training ineffective.

Focus on exercises that are full body, bodyweight exercises. These will give you coordination and strength, and will help you burn fat. The same is true of weightlifting exercises.

Compound exercises, where you are moving two or more joints to complete the movement, are ideal. You can do deadlifts, squats, squat presses(incline, decline, flat), clean and jerks, pull ups and chin-ups, dips, and the military press.

I would forego the isolation exercises in the beginning. Later on you can add a few in at the end of a workout, if you have time left over. These would be exercises that tend to require one joint to complete the movement. Such as: bicep curls, tricep extensions, leg curs, leg extensions. The exception to this rule would be calf raises, I would recommend you do these on your leg day, if you are doing a split routine.

To design a workout routine that's going to get you from underweight to muscular, don't try to reinvent something that has already been done successfully. Instead, use a proven program that's going to teach you how to do it right.

Next, follow all the instructions of the program to the letter. After getting used to the set of exercises, you can now start developing new moves and styles to better serve your own goals.
