Do you know what to do when you don't feel like exercising?

Sometime throughout your fitness journey you'll feel like missing out your strength training session.

There could be lots of reasons. You may be pressed for time, you may be unmotivated, you may feel tired or sore from your last session whatever the case, you don't feel like getting off your butt and going to the gym.

It's times like this when you get the chance to build your resolve, self-discipline, and "never say die" attitude.

Today is one of those days for me

My quads are really painful even now from the high intensity tabata protocol I did yesterday on my rest day, plus I didn't get adequate protein to help restore my health.

Also I must of ate something bad last night because I woke up vomiting at 4am this morning...

So at this time I have two options: 1.) disregard my strength training session today or 2.) Perform the session as planned, but adjust as needed.

What am I gonna choose?

I'm going to do my session as planned and adjust as needed!

So How Can You Make Progress When You Don't Feel Like It?

When I come in the weight room today, I might notice my warm up sets are feeling extra hard. It could be the weights aren't moving as easily as I wish for.

I'll probably still do my first set at the prescribed poundage, but I may have to back off a little on the next two sets no matter.

Consistency Is The Answer

The key is I'm going to get in there and do my strength training session just like I had planned. Why? Because I know it'll be better for me in the long run.

Even if I can't perform at maximum it's ok. I'm still getting a TON of other benefits just by exercising.

Plus, I'm building the not quitting habit.

Besides - you'll certainly not going to make steady progress over and over again - you will have great days, not so great days, and downright crappy training days it's completely just a part of the game.

The key is to follow through with what you started and reap the rewards for being consistent. - 17273

The rules of how to build muscle are simple and straightforward, but are some of the most unrecognized rules in physical fitness. Many people have no idea how muscle is built and this knowledge can immensely increase the chance of making the routine more rewarding and beneficial.

Prepare the muscle. It is important to prepare the muscle before trying to build muscle. In fitness, stretching is important no matter the exercise the person is about to undertake and building muscle is no different. To build muscle effectively through fitness, all of the major muscles groups need to be stretched and warmed up prior to the beginning of any routines.

Hydrate the muscle. Water is not just essential for life, it is also essential to build muscle. The muscles need hydration to build faster, recover more quickly and maintain those high levels of increased strength. The minimum amount of water per day needed for fitness programs that build muscle is 8 glasses of 8 ounces every 24 hours with many fitness magazines recommending even higher amounts per day.

Healing Time. At least 24 hours are required to build muscle. This means that the same muscle groups of the body should only be worked on alternating days with one day of rest in between. On the off day, the fitness routine can include exercises to build muscle on other parts of the body or cardio. There is no way around the time needed to build muscle, at least 24 hours is REQUIRED, not suggested.

Repeat. The key to fitness programs that build muscle is consistency. The careful pattern of rip and repair needs to be repeated over and over again to keep the muscle building. It can take up to a month to build one pound of muscle, but the time is well worth it. For every pound of muscle built, the body will naturally burn between 30 and 50 additional calories per day.

We all need to build muscle in order to make the most of our fitness goals. Them ore muscle we build, them ore our metabolism will burn and the better shape we will remain in throughout our lives.
