How to Get By Gluten Allergy

By Maja Maartens

Gluten Allergy, Celiac disease, or gluten-sensitive enteropathy, is an auto-immune disorder in the intestines, which is caused by gluten, a protein located in a range of cereal grains. Therefore, anyone with celiac disease must abide by a gluten-free diet. Be sure to study the gluten allergy symptoms and if you suspect gluten allergy contact your doctor.

Where is Gluten Found? The major resource of gluten in the food include wheat, rye, and barley. Oats may be tolerated in very small quantities by some patients with celiac disease, even though those with severe disease usually don't.

Dairy foods might not be tolerated when persons with celiac disease has active symptoms, since lactose intolerance frequently develops. However, this is because of the lactose sugar in the dairy foods, rather than the proteins, which can cause milk allergy.

What Common Foods are Gluten-Free?

Foods such as soybean flour, tapioca flour, rice, corn, buckwheat and potatoes are usually safe for people with celiac disease. See below for more information regarding a gluten-free diet.

Why Follow a Gluten Free Diet?

* Though if there are no obvious symptoms, celiac disease can cause dangerous vitamin and nutritional insufficiencies, since the intestines may not be able to absorb important nutrients if gluten is being eaten.

* Rates of certain cancers of the gastrointestinal tract are much higher in people with celiac disease, and there is evidence that this risk is decreased with a gluten-free diet.

* People with active celiac disease are at increased risk for other auto-immune conditions, (such as diabetes mellitus type 1, Graves disease and Hashimotos thyroiditis) especially those with continued gluten exposure.

* Mothers with untreated celiac disease are at increased risk for having a low birth weight baby.

How to Follow a Gluten-Free Diet? First, reading all labels on prepared foods is imperative. Do not eat any foods that contain the following:

* Hydrolyzed vegetable protein

* Flour or cereal products

* Vegetable protein

* Malt and malt flavorings

* Starches (unless specified as corn starch, which does not contain gluten)

* Various flavorings, which can be derived from cereals containing gluten

* Vegetable gum

* Emulsifiers, stabilizers derived from cereals containing gluten

Next, especially when eating at a restaurant, avoid the following:

* Breaded foods

* Creamed foods

* Meatloaf and gravies

The following are good choices for a gluten-free diet:

* Broiled or roasted meats (beef, poultry, fish)

* Plain vegetables

* Plain salads

* Potatoes (white, sweet, yams)

* Corn

* Rice

* Beans

* Fruits

* Breads and baked goods made from alternative flours (rice, soy, tapioca, arrowroot, potato)

* Breakfast cereals containing only rice, corn, grits or hominy (Such as puffed rice). Some people with celiac disease may tolerate oats as well.

Are There Other Suggestions Regarding Nutrition?

It is a good idea to see a dietician or nutritionist on a regular basis to ensure that your gluten-free diet is well balanced and meeting nutritional needs. Your doctor may also prescribe various vitamin supplements to make up for any nutritional deficiencies. Since bone loss is a common problem in people with celiac disease (due in part to vitamin D deficiency), frequent monitoring with bone density scans is recommended.

Consider buying a cookbook with gluten-free recipe ideas, and visit various sites specializes in the support of people with celiac disease.

Stomach Toning for Dummies

By Raul George

Most people are obsessed with having a flat, tone stomach. It's probably the most rewarding part of the body to train but also the hardest. However, with the abundance of tips, guides and workouts out there, a new person getting into this might be overwhelmed.

Most of these are just gimmicks, luring the unexpected buyer into purchasing their products. What this article will mention in the succeeding paragraphs are things than most often get overlooked but is probably the most essential of stomach toning.

The first and most important tip I can give to these people for them to realize that there is no overnight success into toning your stomach or body. We should not be blinded by all these weight loss pills or supplements, often causing us thousands of dollars.

Expensive machines such as ab rollers, or those you see on TV are more often than not just gimmicks. Yes they may aid you in toning your stomach but nothing a normal sit-up can provide.

Another thing that is often forgotten by people is proper diet. No matter how much you workout and exercise, if you still stuff your body with unnecessary food then all your effort will be put to waste. A good diet involves a high amount of fiber in your food. Not only will this help you get rid of unwanted fat, it will also make you healthier.

Do your exercises in the morning. This will shoot up your metabolism early in the morning and have the whole day to burn energy and fat. Sleeping actually lowers our metabolism so doing your exercises in the evening is more often than not, a waste of your time.

You have to make it habit to watch your diet and to follow a good workout regimen. As mentioned above, there is no overnight success. However, the sooner you start the discipline needed by your body, then the sooner you will feel the benefits of a toned stomach. - 17273

The Advantages Of Growing Taller

By Shaun Davids

Have you ever thought of growing taller? There is a way you can experience the benefits of being tall - through a height increase program. So why would you want to do such a thing?

Imagine asking a girl about the ideal man she would go out with. There is a good chance she would want him to be relatively tall - haven't you heard the expression "tall, dark and handsome" before? Now imagine she looked like a model - you would really want to have what she wanted, right? But even if you were dark and handsome, you would still have to grow tall to be the perfect match. How disappointing!

I am sure you have gone through a job application process before. If it was for an office job, I doubt your height was a required qualification, but look who gets the job in the end...Usually the taller one, right?

While we are on the subject of jobs, there are some out there that require you to be a certain height - such as nurses, stewards and cabin crew and others. And if your dream is to be a professional basketball player, growing taller is your number one priority.

A number of "vertically challenged" people tend to suffer from an inferiority complex after not the right height growth for a certain sport or recreational activity. As a solution, a lot of reaserch has been done by fitness and health experts alike, in finding ways to grow taller.

They discovered that growing taller can be rather simple for anyone having the determination to achieve their ideal height. Even if it takes you a lot of commitment and perseverance to do the various grow taller exercises on a consistent basis.

However, to get the best results on these routinary activities to be done, one has to obtain a height growth program, that would focus on the focal points of the body that would allow the person to grow taller.

Generally the main parts of your bofd that will be exercised are your spine, legs, glandular reflex points and even your breathing.

Are you ready to experience the benefits of growing taller? Then why don't you get involved in the right program now, and gain those few extra inches you've always wanted... - 17273

My First Attempt At Acai Berry Recipes

By Jane A Moore

Rachel Ray acai berry recipes are hard to find. After searching off and on for a number of days I gave up searching but I hadn't given up hope. I decided to experiment in my own kitchen. Often some of my favorite recipes are those I've stumbled across when I've had to switch one ingredient for another in a pinch.

One of the best things I can think of to do with different juices is to make a chicken marinade. The best recipe I have is one I learned in Central America, and is a combination of citrus juices, garlic, white pepper, a little sea salt, and some chicken stock. Occasionally I add some soy sauce or Bragg, but with my acai berry version I'm going to leave that out.

I start by halving the chicken breasts because I find that being able to cook smaller pieces for less time on the barbeque decreases the chance that I will overcook or dry out the meat. Add all the chicken to a glass bowl, and add cold pressed olive oil, some ground sea salt, ground white pepper, minced garlic, acai berry juice, and lime juice as the citrus flavor. I thought the sour lime would balance the sweetness of the acai berry juice. As it turns out, the chicken turned out quite well, but not quite as good as by normal marinade. I also doubted that very much of the acai goodness made it into the chicken, as most of the sauce is burned off or dripped in the bar-b-q any way.

Let's think of something else that might be Rachel Ray acai berry recipe worthy. I thought of an acai berry frozen yogurt that was quick and simple to make, but this one turned out delicious! First, because I am going to add juice to the yogurt, we need to drain some liquid so it won't form too many ice crystals once it's frozen. Start by draining a pint of plain (low fat) yogurt with a colander and cheese cloth in the fridge for a day. Once it's has drained, discard the liquid, and now whip in 1/2 a cup of acai berry juice. At this point it actually makes a wonderful spread or dip.

So once the yogurt and acai berry mixture has been mixed and whipped, put it in a Tupperware and freeze it for a minimum of 6 hours. Once it is frozen to your taste - some people prefer just a chilled version, others like really hard frozen yogurt - serve, and enjoy! This recipe so far is the favorite, and versatile as well. You can use it as a non-frozen bagel spread, or throw it in the freezer for a frozen version perfect for a hot summer day.

The last and most obvious recipe was an acai berry smoothie. I added ice, two frozen bananas, some plain low fat yogurt, and 1.5 cups of acai berry juice to the blender. Predictably, it was excellent. Smoothie recipes are almost fool proof. Don't forget to add a little wheat germ to smoothies to add some invisible protein and fibre to your smoothie recipes.

With a little imagination acai can be incorporated into many different recipes. Without much thought I was able to create a main course, desert and a smoothie. Although Rachel Ray acai berry recipes do not seem to currently exist I will continue looking and in the meantime I will be creating and writing about my own recipes. - 17273

The Importance of Juicing Vegetables

By Scott Emily

Vegetable juicing has much the same benefits as juicing fruit with key differences. It's important to vary your juicing recipe to include a wide range of ingredients. Constantly look for new mixed juicer recipes and try to notice fruits at your local market that you've never tried before.

Many people have such spoiled palettes that natural foods such as fruits and vegetables do not appeal to them. That is okay because with juicing, you can slowly retrain yourself to enjoy things are you were meant to enjoy.

One of the reasons vegetable juicing is preferred in terms of healthfulness over fruits is the lower concentration of sugar. If you are going to consume sugar, at least it is natural fruit sugars but nonetheless some people who much watch their sugar intake will want to consume plenty of vegetables and scale back on the fruits. Talk to your nutritionist so you know how much fruit you could take.

Chlorophyll contained in vegetables do a lot to promote the well being of our bodies. To plants, chlorophyll serves many functions that at this moment are not of our concern. Our concern is the cleansing, antiseptic, cell rejuvenating properties it provides.

The benefits described earlier are actually the functions of hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is what carries oxygen in our blood and chlorophyll has such a similar structure many experiments have shown our bodies are able to convert chlorophyll into hemoglobin and that in turn enriches our blood.

The number of benefits from consuming massive amounts of chlorophyll has been increasing with new discoveries. The most obvious ones include increase in blood count, stabilization of sugar levels in the blood, and relief of gastric ulcers. There are also detoxifying and cleansing effects as a result of consuming chlorophyll.

So where does the chlorophyll come from? We know it is in vegetables, and we know that it is what makes vegetables green. So if we just eat green vegetables we will be consuming lots of chlorophyll. To get greater amounts of green in faster time is by consuming foods richest in chlorophyll. These are alfalfa, barley grass, chlorella, spirulina, and wheatgrass.

Chlorella is especially important as it is high in vitamin B12, something that many vegetarians lack if they are not careful about taking supplements or finding other sources of vitamin B12. It's a vitamin that is found mostly in animal products but is also contained in chlorella. If you can't get a hold of chlorella there are chlorella tablets that many juicers will crush into powder and add to juices. This allows for nutrients to be absorbed into the body most effectively. - 17273

Muscle Building Tips to Achieve the Desired Results After Your Workouts

By Ricardo d Argence

Weight training and muscle building aren't just great for bodybuilders. They should be important parts of any person's healthy exercise routine. Whether you're working out to get healthy or to improve the definition of your muscles, the tips below will help you reach your goal.

Increase your protein intake. Protein is very important for enhancing and building up muscles. If you don't have adequate protein, you won't gain any additional muscle no matter how much effort you exert.

However, everyone really needs to know the right amount in order to properly implement this. When trying to consume protein you need to understand that some of the food sources of protein are a little higher than necessary, and in fact they may be too high to benefit the whole process.

The one cardinal rule for any bodybuilder that is really dedicated is to eat one gram of protein for every pound of body weight. This entails that if your total weight is 170 lbs, then you must eat 170 grams of protein each day to generate adequate muscle mass. If the fat content is an issue you could opt for other low fat protein sources like fish and even chicken instead of consuming red meat.

Allow your body some time to recover between sessions. You don't want to become obsessive with the process of working out, because there are many people that do this and there is a chance that they're hurting themselves more than helping. Though these people seem to be impressive it may not be a good idea to follow in their footsteps.

There is a reason for this, and it's because body building, as medical research has shown, is not solely based on exercise. Your body needs to have a chance to recover a little bit, especially in between tough exercises. It also needs well balanced meals and plenty of nutrients. If you don't have these things then it's most likely that all of your efforts will go to waste and you won't buildup any muscles at all. Though you could probably expect a trip to the hospital sometime in the near future.

Make sure that you get adequate sleep. Though sleeping might seem like a waste of time, your ability to gain muscle mass depends on it. Most of the bodily functions that need to occur will occur while you're sleeping!

The major reason for that is pretty basic: the body has the ability to reroute the sources of energy to different jobs because during sleep it's not being used for anything else that it would normally need while awake. Among those processes is the synthesis of protein, and that is definitely needed for the development of muscles.

If you're only sleeping a few hours every night, you're not giving your body enough time to do the work it needs to complete. Make sure to sleep for at least eight hours every night.

Make sure that you use Compound Movements. This essentially means lifting weights as opposed to other types which may not work, or will only work on certain muscles.

However, you need to know how to lift properly in order to receive the expedited muscle building benefits. Basically, what you need to do is choose weights to lift that feel heavy for you.

That doesn't necessarily mean you have to lift the heaviest weight on the rack. It just means that you need to feel the muscles working when you lift that weight if you're going to really benefit from your efforts. If you're new to bodybuilding, lifting heavy might mean using a 20 pound weight. For others, it might be lifting 50 to 100 pounds. - 17273

Spiritual Mushrooms Used Historically in Religious Practices

By Dr. Markho Rafael

For at least 7,000 years, humans have used mushrooms for spiritual rituals. Pre-historic cave paintings in Tassili, Algeria, from 5,000 B.C. depict masked, dancing, mushroom-wielding medicine men. It is believed the people in the area, known as the "San Peoples," used consciousness-altering mushrooms in their spiritual practices.

Tassili is located in an area that today is an uninhabitable mountainous desert. But in ancient times, the climate was wet, allowing not only humans to live there but also cattle, and even crocodiles. The San Peoples were culturally tied to other tribes across the desert, from Chad to Egypt, maybe even Greece.

Because ancient Greeks, too, may have used mushrooms in their spiritual practices. The "Eleusinian Mysteries," continuous for an astounding two millennia, was the most important spiritual initiation ceremony in ancient Europe. Scholars believe it involved use of consciousness-altering mushrooms. With participants such as Plato and Aristotle, spiritual mushrooms may be an important part of the legacy of western civilization.

Later Vikings are known to have consumed limited amounts of the today much feared poisonous species Fly agaric (Amanita muscaria). Ironically, they appear to have used it to overcome fear through religious rituals in which they danced and ate mushrooms before fearlessly going into battle.

Granted, most of us would not consider this form of warrior spirituality in any way "admirable." But it was part of the Viking religious practices, whatever our opinion of them may be. Meanwhile, to the east, Siberian shamans also used Fly agaric as a spiritual tool to communicate with their deities.

Fly agaric is even put forth as the source of "soma," a juice described in ancient Vedic texts as bestowing divine qualities on the consumer, including immortality. Convincing arguments linking Fly agaric to Soma are presented by R. Gordon Wasser in his book Soma: Divine Mushroom of Immortality. His theory, although not proven, hasnt been disproven either.

(Note: Make no mistake, Fly agaric - Amanita muscaria - is poisonous and can also be confused with other deadly species. Consumption for any reason is completely discouraged.)

Meanwhile in the New World, spiritual ceremonies using mind-expanding mushrooms were likewise performed. The earliest written record stems from between the 13th and 15th centuries, a text known as the Mixtec Codex. The Mixtec Gods were often engraved wielding mushrooms.

In spite of the fact that the Mixtec people of central Mexico self-professed to use spiritual mushrooms in their religious ceremonies, western scholars still questioned it in a characteristically condescending fashion.

An American botanist named William Safford was convinced that peyote buttons were confused for mushrooms, while other scholars maintained that the Mixtec tribe truly did use consciousness-altering mushrooms in their spiritual practices.

This debate carried on until amateur anthropologist Robert Weitlaner was invited to observe a Mixtec religious ceremony in the early 1930's and witnessed the use of mushrooms firsthand.

Two decades later, R. Gordon Wasser and his wife Valentina Povlovna were the first white people to participate in a Velada (mushroom ceremony). This religious ceremony lead by shaman Don Aurelio was described by Wasson in a 1957 Life Magazine article, which became the spring-board for public awareness of mind-altering mushrooms.

Out of 60 Psilocybe species, 25 are known to contain the mind-altering compounds psilocin (unstable) and psilocybin (stable). The two species Psilocybin caerulescens and Psilocybin mexicana are believed to be the ones used by the Mixtec. Although Psilocybin cubensis is now more common even in America, it is believed to have arrived with the Europeans.

Today, use of consciousness-altering mushrooms is illegal in most countries of the world due to the fact that they are often misused as recreational drugs. Only in The Netherlands were fresh (not dried) Psilocybe mushrooms until recently legal.

But after a 17-year old French tourist killed herself by jumping off a bridge after consuming Psilocybe mushrooms, the Dutch parliament voted to ban all sale of so called "magic mushrooms." The ban took effect on December 1, 2008. The use of consciousness-altering mushrooms in spiritual practices is now officially history. - 17273

Winsor Pilates Review

By Steve Estes

Since its development Winsor Pilates has taken the physical fitness world by storm and enjoys a terrific reputation among the top personal trainers of the world. Most of them are certain that it will quite some time before this big of a breakthrough will happen again in the field of self development.

It is not uncommon to find many top Hollywood and business personalities working their butts off in Winsor Pilates studios. Pilates has quietly developed into a multi-million dollar cottage industry. You don't have to search far to find such products like Winsor Pilates tapes and DVDs, ebook, hard covers, even online study programs

Just like all forms of popular exercise, Winsor Pilates has those who love it and those who don't. Although I haven't found many critics, Take a look at some selected features and try to tell id this system is the right one for you.

It is pretty easy to find practitioners blogging about their favorite Pilates routines. Some even discuss the particular Pilates machines they prefer, like the Pilates Reformer or the Pilates Power Gym. These reviews are generally fairly glowing in nature and it is easy to see why.

What Winsor Pilates does is powers up the core of your body, developing great posture and toning your muscles. Even digestion is improved by some because of the nature of the exercises.

It is obvious that Pilates focuses on total body development but what you find is that it seriously pumps up your thighs, butt, and abs. Clearly they specifically work your back as well. In that it is a complete exercise system you find yourself centering your body, mind, and spirit as well.

Finding any negative reviews was a much more difficult task. People just don't have a great deal of bad things to say about Winsor Pilates. I guess the one thing that seemed universal is that not everyone wanted to have to purchase Pilates equipment. And that is understandable. You start an exercise program and want it to be as inexpensive as possible.

Also some of the lose weight fast crowd didn't like the fact that you have to actually put in time and effort in order to lose any pounds off your middle. Well, guess what? This is the safest way of doing it. I guess some folks would rather just take some potentially dangerous pill rather than actually work for their progress, Winsor Pilates is just not for them anyway. - 17273

Shoulder Pain-Heart Attack or Rotator Cuff Injury?

By Dr Jason Fowler

The great TV classic ER helps teach armchair physicians to become amateur diagnosticians. He's in shock! She's got kidney stones! Rule-out pheochromocytoma!

Sometimes a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

You've learned somewhere - on the network news, in the Science section of The New York Times, or in a CPR class at your job - that shoulder pain can mean you're having a heart attack. Seemingly out of the blue, your shoulder begins to ache and throb. Very concerned, you rush to the local emergency room.

The resident's first question, of course, is "where does it hurt"? You point to your right shoulder and blurt out, "Am I having a heart attack?" The resident smiles, gently reassuring. "A heart attack might give you pain in your left shoulder," she says. "Have you been to the gym lately? This could be a rotator cuff strain."

The resident knows that heart attack symptoms usually involve chest pain (in two-thirds of cases), and may include faintness, shortness of breath, sweating, and a feeling of impending doom.1 Chest pain may spread to the back, jaw, and arms. Left arm pain may radiate to the inside of the forearm and the ring and little fingers. So, shoulder pain by itself probably doesnt suggest a heart attack.

She orders an MRI which shows mild damage to the right rotator cuff. What is going on? What exactly is the rotator cuff?

The rotator cuff is a muscular sheath that surrounds the head of the arm bone (the humerus) and the entire shoulder joint (really, two joints - the acromioclavicular and glenohumeral joints). The four muscles that comprise the rotator cuff help raise the arm to the front and the side and help turn the shoulder inward or outward.

If you are a sports fan, you know that rotator cuff injuries affect baseball pitchers, tennis players, swimmers, and football players. Such injuries are due to repetitive motion, and may also result from falling on the shoulder or arm or lifting heavy weights.

Rotator cuff injuries may also be slowly developing and chronic, related to arthritic and degenerative changes in the rotator cuff tendon and the two shoulder joints. Low-grade pain may develop, and the pain may become aching, throbbing, and chronic. Raising the arm may cause pain, and there may be loss of mobility.2

In the above-40 population, lack of exercise and chronically poor posture may contribute to rotator cuff problems. Sitting at a desk all day, with the neck jutting forward and slumped shoulders, places long-term mechanical stress on the rotator cuff.

Chiropractic treatment may be very useful in helping to rehabilitate chronic rotator cuff injuries. A chiropractic physician is expert in evaluating postural problems and associated spinal conditions. By providing effective treatment, postural corrections, and rehabilitative exercise, chiropractors offer a comprehensive therapeutic program to reduce pain, improve shoulder mobility, and regain function.

Acai Berry Diet: Juice

By Dana Hawkes

One of the easiest ways to get acai berry in an acai berry diet is to purchase juice. Acai berry juice can be a wonderful way to get what you want. While you may look up acai berry diet reviews to follow the best type of juice to purchase, looking at these three tips can help you to make the best juice decision.

Percentage Juice

How much juice is really in acai berry juice drink? The acai berry diet relies on knowing how much acai berry you are getting into your system. By knowing the percentage of actual acai berry juice (not including the pit) in the drink, you can know exactly how you are doing.

Ingredients

The ingredients that are in the acai berry diet juice are also important. If you are not drinking complete acai berry, you are going to want to know what else you are putting into your body. Avoid acai berry diet juices that add a lot of excess, unwanted sugar.

Cleansing Drink

Those who are looking for a detox with the acai berry diet will be looking for two forms of juice; the acai berry juice and the cleansing juice. Cleansing juices that feature some acai may be better, but you do not need acai in your cleansing drink. The cleansing drink should feature other antioxidants and nutrient rich vegetables to help in the cleansing process. The cleansing drink is most often had after the acai berry diet juice drink.

Be sure to watch for drinks that try to say that they use the entire acai berry. They should not be using the pit, which makes up a majority of the acai berry. IF this is the case, find a new type of juice for you to use with your acai berry diet. - 17273

So Many Creatines - Which is the Best?

By Aaron Wilding

If you've been to a supplement store or website any time in the last couple of years, you've probably noticed that there are now several different types of creatines that you can buy. So what is the difference between the different types? Is one better than another?

The three main types of creatine that you'll see in a store these days are creatine monohydrate, creatine ethyl ester (CEE), and liquid creatine. Every now and then you'll see some others on the shelf, but these are the three most common.

Let's take a brief look at the difference between these types of creatine supplements.

Creatine Monohydrate

The most basic form of creatine that you can get is creatine monohydrate. Because of this it is also the cheapest. One thing to watch for when buying monohydrate is purity. There are different labels you'll see such as 'Creapure' that indicate the quality of the creatine supplement. This form of creatine is natural and can be found in many of the foods you eat. You'd just have to eat a lot of those foods to get a good amount out of them!

Creatine Ethyl Ester (CEE)

Most of the other versions of creatine that are on the market claim to be more easily absorbed by the body. This is the case with CEE. What they've done is attached an organic compound called an ester that apparently makes it easier for the body to absorb. And the more creatine your body can absorb the more it can put to work for you!

Liquid Creatines

Similar to CEE, the idea here is to improve absorption. Monohydrate creatine supplements have the tendency to bond with food in your stomach, making them less effective. The idea behind liquid creatine is that it avoids this problem. In it's liquid form it tend to not attach itself to food and so is absorbed by the body better.

Final Thoughts

Creatine ethyl ester and liquid creatine products have had a lot of buzz around them lately about whether they are effective or not. It seems that at this time there have been enough studies done on CEE to show that it can be done and can improve the effectiveness of creatine, but I haven't seen as much backup information for the liquid products.

Either way, creatine is one of those products that you should definitely consider as part of your supplementation. It has long been proven effective, and many creatine supplements are very inexpensive. - 17273

Do I Have Milk Allergy?

By Maja Maartens

Cow's milk is the most widespread allergy-causing foods in children, and it's the top grounds of allergic reactions in especially young infants.

Milk allergy concerns roughly speaking 2 percent to 3 percent of tots worldwide, and its symptoms and signs may be severe enough to cause distress not simply for an allergic kid, but also for the child's parents. However the fine news is that the largest part of children outgrow a milk allergy by the age 2 or 3.

Allergic reactions usually show a few minutes to a few hours after you eat/drink milk " but in some cases it can be days before symptoms and sign occur. Signs and symptoms stretch from soft to harsh and might include wheezing, vomiting, hives and digestive problems. Rarely, milk allergy can cause anaphylaxis - a severe, life-threatening reaction.

Milk Allergy Symptoms

Three types of milk correlated allergy symptoms have been accepted:

1. Symptoms set off quickly following eating/drinking cow's milk. Reactions mostly affect the skin, triggering hives and/or eczema.

2. Symptoms start several hours after ingesting cow's milk. Symptoms of this type are mainly diarrhea and vomiting.

3. Symptoms commence more than twenty hours after eating/drinking. The major symptom for this type is diarrhea.

Symptoms of milk allergy can affect the skin, causing rashes or hives; the digestive tract, causing bloating and diarrhea, and the respiratory system, causing runny nose and asthma.

Here is a more whole list of symptoms:

* vomiting

* hyperactive behavior

* diarrhea

* asthma

* hives

* runny nose

* rashes

* stuffy nose

* ear infections

* bloating

* watery eyes

* eczema

* allergic shiners (black around the eyes)

* recurrent bronchitis

* failure to thrive

The above symptoms are not restricted to people experiencing milk allergy. As you become familiar with food allergy symptoms, you probably become aware of that numerous foods share a variety of regular symptoms, such as: bloating, rash, and runny nose.

What is the Difference of Milk allergy and Milk Intolerance?

It is essential to tell apart a true milk allergy from milk protein intolerance or lactose intolerance. Unlike a milk allergy, intolerance doesn't involve the immune system. Milk intolerance causes different symptoms and need different treatment than does a true milk allergy. Ordinary signs and symptoms of milk protein intolerance or lactose intolerance include digestive problems, such as bloating, gas or diarrhea, after consuming milk.

Milk Allergy Prevention and Cure

The only way to prevent an allergic reaction is to avoid milk and milk proteins altogether. This can be complicated, as milk is a familiar food ingredient. Despite your best efforts, you or your child may still come into contact with milk.

Medications, such as antihistamines, may reduce signs and symptoms of a milk allergy. These drugs can be taken after exposure to milk to control an allergic reaction and help relieve discomfort. If you or your child has a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), you may need an emergency injection of epinephrine (adrenaline) and a trip to the emergency room.

If you're at risk of having a life-threatening reaction, you or your child may need to carry injectable epinephrine (such as an EpiPen) at all times. - 17273
