How to Make Lemon Poppy Seed Cupcakes

Through the ages, poppy seeds have proven their significance in the medical history and as a significant element in a lot of healthy dishes. These days, more and more recipes have been brought up that highlight the use of poppies . In a wide variety of cuisines, poppy seeds have been given great importance due to its health properties.

Most frequently, poppy seeds are a favorite in a wide variety of baked goods like muffins, cakes, bread, and more. One tasty and healthy example is the lemon poppy seed cupcake. To make this tempting dessert, you will need a salt, baking powder, baking soda, yoghurt, all purpose flour, blue poppy seeds, vanilla extract, zest of lemon, softened butter, and sugar. To come up with an icing to make it perfect, you must have an icing sugar and lemon juice or water.

What you need to do first is to prepare the moldings by greasing them properly. You must then have the oven preheated in a 200 degrees Celsius or 400 degrees Fahrenheit temperature. While doing this, you can start mixing the sugar and butter through the aid of a hand mixer within 3 minutes until the solution has become creamy and light. Then add the eggs one at a time while you go on with the stirring. Also add the blue poppy seeds into the mixture.

Afterwards, you may then pour in the vanilla extract and lemon zest. You may then follow on adding the blue poppy seeds directly into the mixture. On a separate mixing bowl, mix together all the dry ingredients. After a few minutes of continuously mixing the wet ingredients, pour in the dry ones as well as the yoghurt alternately both starting and ending with flour.

You may then start pouring the prepared mixture into its moulds and properly even out the top before placing them into the oven. For about 18 to 20 minutes, bake the mixture into the oven. To properly determine whether or not the muffins are already well baked, you can do so through a thin knife. After having securely determined that the muffins are already fully baked, you may start getting them out of their moulds and wait for five minutes to have all of them cooled down. The cooling factor is important before you start adding the icing on top to avoid melting the icing as it will look differently.

For making the icing, you must first stir the icing sugar with the lemon juice until it gets moist. Add a little in every interval while you continue stirring the mixture until you have achieved the desired texture. The perfect texture for the icing is white and creamy which will serve as the muffin's mouth watering topping. I have spent many years making my own ice cream. For my friends when I was at college, and now for my friends, family and kids. I am always asked why? and lots of other questions about making ice cream at home. So now I have put all my reasons together. This is why I make my own ice cream and why I tell everyone that they should also.

1. My family and I love ice cream. We eat a lot of it all year round not just in summer. On a regular basis I found buying ice cream adds up, and on a monthly grocery bill, well lets just say I got a real shock. When I make my own, I make it a lot cheaper (but just as tasty, even tastier) than store bought. So I save on my food bill.

2. Having kids I am now more conscious of being 'green' and kinder to the planet. Making my own ice cream, is one way I can decrease my food miles. And instead of paying for ice cream to travel halfway around the country to me, everything I use for it I get on my own doorstep.

3. By making my own, I get to know and decide what goes into it. No preservatives or additives. The kids get less high and I'm not worried that I am filling them up on crap.

4. Allergies are not a problem. More and more friends and family these days seem to suffer from some sort of allergy or another. Well I can usually just leave out what they are allergic to, and replace it with something else.

5. It comes in really handy when invited out to dinner or to a barbecue, instead of wasting money on flowers etc, I bring along the dessert, yes my home made ice cream.

6. I get the kids involved too. They love it and sometimes bring their friends over especially to make ice cream. It's great on a rainy day when they are hanging around the house looking for trouble.

7. I can get the kids to eat more fruit too, by serving it on top or beside the ice cream. Add some good nuts, and maybe some oats sometimes and they don't even know they are eating something really good for them. Result!

8. I always make my ice cream with lower fat cream or half and half. Honestly they don't notice the difference. It's so much less calorific than store bought.

Obesity Is A Silent Killer

ATTENTION EVERYONE who's overweight. If there was ever a time to get ourselves motivated to loose those unwanted pounds, this is it. Most people don't understand what obesity is costing this country. It is killing us financially and physically.

I am not talking about the cost of the food that's consumed but of the billions of dollars that are being spent to treat this avoidable disease. Obesity increase your risk of diabetes, heart disease, and some types of cancer. Two thirds of all the citizens of America are obese.

Let me say that again, two thirds of American adults are obese and that number does not even include our children. America needs a change! I am not talking about being super skinny either, but having a healthy body weight with a BMI between 20 and 25.

This message pertains to me also. My husband and I had lost around 40 pounds total and it felt great. Unfortunately, we got a little lazy with our exercise and eating plan after we got a taste of being thinner.

Now, we have gained a some of the pounds back and unless we turn this boat around, we will both be back up to where we first started. It is a never ending struggle but one we have no plans to give up on. If you are overweight, then you aren't exercising enough and you are consuming too many calories. It's that simple.

This is common knowledge but what do we do with that information? The answer is not to eat less though. You need to eat food with fiber that will give you the feeling of being satisfied. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains contain a lot of fiber so I recommend that you get 3 servings of whole grains and 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

Here are some more weight loss strategies:

* Drink non fat milk, zero calories beverages and plenty of water.

* Take your time when eating your meal. When you realize that you are no longer hungry STOP and push away your plate.

* If you are eating out, put half of your meal in a doggy bag before you even start eating.

* Do not skip meals - always have some type of fruit, vegetable or lean protein nearby.

* Get rid of all processed and high calorie foods in your house. It will be harder to eat them if they are not readily available.

* Write down all of the food that you eat - You will be amazed at the end of the day what you've eaten.

* Get moving - walk or run at least 30 minutes every day.

Does this sound too hard or complicated? No, it is so easy but it all depends on your mindset. Go ahead and get started today. Change one meal, one day at a time. One small change is all it takes to get off the ground. Instead of an all-or-nothing approach at this, it is instead slow and steady. After all, this is a lifestyle change.
