Through the use of pesticides the nutritional value of our food supply has been lowered twenty-five to fifty percent in just the last few decades. These horrifying results are the comparison of today's nutritional values to those of the 60's and 1970's and should be nothing short of shocking. With food output being constantly pushed to the limit it's no wonder that our health and the nutrition of our food has been reduced.

Adding to the health problem is the processes that food undergoes from the time it is farmed till it ends up in your home. For the convenience of the customer and to improve mass safety the food we eat undergoes the trials of irradiation, chemical preservation and high heat. While these may seem like necessary measures they are actually destroying the foundations of the food we eat and diminishing the nutrition of the food itself. Currently, food is nothing more than an empty shell of its former self when it finally reaches the market shelves.

Many people don't know that even simple things like heating and cooking the foods you eat can kill their nutritional value. The RAW Womens system is able to provide your body with the most nutrition from food by keeping the food in its natural form, free from alteration or chemical interference. In this way the body gets the most natural and healthy form of food intake as nature wanted. - 17273

Amazing Smoothie Recipes Review for Good Health and Great Flavour!

By Jen Turner

Since I decided to lose weight I always knew I needed to stay healthy. I looked around online for some healthy smoothie recipes to make this a little easier, and I came across the Amazing Smoothie Recipes eBook - which is more than just a collection of recipes. As soon as I started reading it I found a number of health tips and ways that smoothies can help you lose weight.

When I bought the eBook it was very easy to download " which was great because I couldn't wait to check it out, alongside the 4 bonus eBooks that came with it! It only cost $9.95 and it was given in PDF format which helped me to print it out and put it into a ring binder, though I also saved a copy of all the eBooks on my computer for safe-keeping.

Some of the great things this eBook has taught me include just why it's so important to have 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day. Because most of us lead such busy lives, we often get as little as three - but the recipes in this eBook provide a helpful way around this. You'll even get a chart so you can tick off how many portions of fruit you eat every day.

I wasn't just interested in the recipes, though: I found it fascinating to sit down and simply read about how good fruit is for our bodies. When youre on a diet, it's very reassuring to know that the recipes you're making are giving you all the nutrients you need " and I learned a lot from this eBook. Take, for example, the fact that an important cancer-preventing ingredient, lycopene, is found in the watermelon which can be turned into a delicious drink! And that there are a whole range of antioxidants found in different fruits.

These recipes are perfect for anyone who wants to stick to eating only raw foods, as they only take a minute to make in the blender. Some of my favorite recipes are the Pink Banana Smoothie and the Apple Passion, on pages 37 and 43. Make sure you try them!

The one factor I'd like to point out about this eBook is that all the measurements for liquids are provided in ml instead of in cups. But this wasnt too much of a problem for me, as most of my measuring cups already had the measurements for ml as well as cups " and I found that around 200ml of juice works out at just less than 1 cup " but if you don't already have one that measures ml, I'd recommend getting a Pyrex measuring cup. If you're also worried about making a mess with your blender then you'll really enjoy the section on keeping it clean " it's certainly saved me a lot of effort!

Buying this eBook was super easy and convenient thanks to the fact that it is sent to you to download instantly, no matter what time of the day it is! I was especially impressed by the great free eBooks that came with it: Amazing Fast Food Facts, 101 Amazing Ways to Stay Healthy, The Amazing Family Cookbook (with 500+ low sugar and low fat recipes), and Amazing Vegetable Variations (300+ recipes that families love).

Id definitely recommend the Amazing Smoothie Recipes eBook to anyone on a diet or wanting to learn more about improving their health! - 17273

Natural Sweeteners: Don't Be Fooled, Find The Natural Sweetener That Works Best For You

By Jamis Hartley

The idea of consuming less sugar and replacing it with an all natural sweetener is becoming more available and quite popular. Many are looking for alternatives to sugar to help them lose weight, for some it's very important because of a medical condition and for others it's just a smart thing to do because of the health benefits. Whatever the reason, everyone should do some basic study to help determine how natural sweeteners will affect their body and which of the many choices is best for them. Here are some basics and recommendations to consider in your decision.

* Sugar: Has a Glycemic Index of 60 and 4 calories per gram

* Xylitol: Has a Glycemic Index of 13 and 2 and a half calories per gram

* Sorbitol: Has a Glycemic Index of 9 and 2 and a half calories per gram

* Isomalt: Has a Glycemic Index of 8 and 2.1 calories per gram

* Maltitol Syrup: Has a Glycemic Index of 52 and 3 calories per gram

* Lactitol: Has a Glycemic Index of 6 and 3 calories per gram

* Erythritol: Has a Glycemic Index of 0 and .2 calories per gram

Some of these natural sweeteners can cause more digestive problems. Also some, as you can see have a higher Glycemic Index than the others as well as carbohydrates (not included in the list). The only one that does not cause digestive problems is Erythritol. Erythritol, like Xylitol will not cause tooth decay, but Xylitol can cause digestive issues for some. The reason Erythritol does not affect digestion like the others is that it is partially absorbed by the small intestine and is excreted via the bladder (approximately 60-90%). This makes it a more suitable solution for those with current digestive problems.

In addition, if you have diabetes, Erythritol is the better choice as it does not affect blood sugar. Its sweetness is 70% to that of sugar, but it is better for your body than sugar and it does not promote tooth decay. Erythritol is a naturally occurring sugar found in fruits like melons, pears and grapes. It can be used in recipes, on foods and in cold or hot drinks just like sugar. When it comes to natural sweeteners Erythritol is becoming more popular for people that are dieting and those with diabetes. You can find more information on natural sweeteners online in order to make the best choice for you. - 17273

Organic Coffee Can Make You Feel Good

By Ali Bautista

t is a joy to have a fresh cup of coffee. Made from delicately roasted beans and freshly ground. The benefits of an organic bean are pretty self evident and desirable. An if that organic coffee bean can pay a farmer a decent wage then it is even better. There has been a groundswell in people wanting a good tasting, organically grown bean, that is purchased in an ethical manner and the fair trade movement is gaining popular acceptance.

Fair Trade in some ways goes back to the Dutch protest book of the 1800's Max Havelaar, commenting on the trading practices in the Dutch East Indies. Today the focus is on making sure the farmer is being paid a good price for his beans and that he actually gets that price rather than it ending up with some middlemen along the way.

Practices have been taken as far as paying the suppliers in part before the beans are received. This is to help with their funding arrangements so they don't need to use a money lender for the time between harvest and payment.

Organic Coffee is a natural synergy for countries such as Peru and Ethiopia. Here there is a tradition of low-tech, small farms, and harsh conditions. The coffee that is produced can't compete in term of volume with the big coffee growing nations such as Columbia or Brazil. Instead they can concentrate of niche markets who want high quality organic coffee.

The emergence of cooperatives in these countries strengthens communities once again and allow joint decisions for community spending. Money is allocated to be spent on medical and educational projects.

The emergence of organic coffees as a viable alternative has in some cases pushed some farmers away from drug crops as they can now make a living from traditional crops.

Good coffee and ethical trading can work together. - 17273

Solid Protein is Good for Muscle Gain

By Dr. Dorothy Nevelestein

Out of the many protein sources out there, whey protein is the ultimate. It comes from milk. During the process of turning milk into cheese, whey protein is separated out. Protein can be found in a variety of foods -mainly meats, such as fish, beef, and chicken.

Dairy products as well as eggs, cottage cheese, soy and vegetable protein also contain good amounts of protein. Nevertheless, none of these sources compares in quality or ease of use like whey protein. Whey protein has the highest value in providing branched-chain amino acids, which result in building and retaining muscle tissue.

Research has shown that ingesting protein powder every day can boost immune system health, facilitate the healing of wounds after surgery or injury, and promote healthy skin - in addition to fostering muscle strength and development.

A human body needs daily protein because that is what muscles and tissues are built from, and there is no place where the body can store extra protein. The need for adequate protein in the human body is second only to the need for water.

Putting that protein right before bedtime, even after your dinner but before bedtime, you can actually minimize how much muscle breakdown you have during the night. You can use protein powder as a way to increase the protein at your breakfast.

Whey protein also plays a role as an antioxidant and helps support a health immune system. Most importantly, consistent whey protein intake coupled with exercise will result in consistent muscle building.

Protein powders can also be a combination of one or more ingredients.

These concentrated sources of protein are processed into the powdered form, to be reconstituted into liquid form as a protein shake, or mixed with fruit juice or milk. Additionally, protein powders can be sprinkled on cereal, stirred into soups or stews, and cooked into baked goods.

Protein powder is designed to be taken everyday as a dietary supplement. Even if you aren't a bodybuilder, starting your day with a protein powder shake can provide nutritional benefits. While many nutritionists advise consuming protein throughout the day, a healthy boost of protein first thing in the morning can stabilize your blood sugar levels throughout the rest of the day. - 17273

Fort Myers Weight Loss Program: The Zone Diet

By Tasha-joe Hendricks

If you haven't heard of the Zone Diet, you're missing out on a unique opportunity to achieve your weight loss goals once and for all. The Zone Diet is part of the Fort Myers weight loss program, which uses scientifically designed methods that enable you to significantly reduce high blood pressure, cholesterol, and excess weight, as well as improve the health of your heart.

The heart of the Zone Diet is found within the breakthrough research on heart disease conducted by Dr. Sears. This diet has been specifically designed to improve heart health as well as foster weight loss, both of which will significantly increase one's overall health.

Most diets are only concerned with the amount of calories you consume, so it's little wonder that so many diets result in a lot of hard work that results in little weight loss. With the Fort Myers weight loss program, you'll be learning ways to count the quality of your calories rather than merely the quantity. For instance, a double cheeseburger with fries is over 2,000 calories. With the Zone Diet, those 2,000 calories would represent almost four whole meals, but those four meals - even with an identical calorie count - would be actively helping you to lose weight rather than gain it, and would be far better for your heart.

To ensure that your efforts will be as successful as possible, you'll need to make a few adjustments in the way you approach dieting and weight loss. Everyone feels the urge to give in to temptation and eat fatty, unhealthy junk foods sometimes, but these are exactly the kinds of foods that need to be removed from your meals. This will be extremely difficult at first, but you'll be surprised at how quickly you adapt to a new, more healthy way of eating.

Discipline, after all, is the first step in overcoming your weight issues. If you're not ready for this challenge, it's not just your weight that will continue to be a problem, you could also be facing future problems with your heart or cholesterol levels. What is your strategy for following the Fort Myers weight loss plan, are you prepared to stick with it? The program's rules and directions are in place for a reason, failing to follow them will undermine your own success. Most people simply aren't aware that by altering their metabolism, they can significantly impede their weight loss.

Dr. Sears has shown that through combining specific ratios of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into correct proportions, your diet can be extraordinarily effective. Determining what proportions you'll be using for your own meal plans will be decided using detailed information supplied by the program.

As with all weight loss programs, it's a good idea to discuss your plans with your doctor before starting the Zone Diet to ensure that it's the right plan for your individual needs. This particular diet is focused on dividing your calories into a variety of meals, which involves specific ratios of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats that will suit your specific weight loss goals.

These weight loss strategies were developed by Dr. Sears over several years. Through the Fort Myers weight loss program, you'll begin right away with creating a meal plan, modifying your calorie intake, and working to boost your metabolism. You'll also have an opportunity to learn better ways of lowering your blood pressure and cholesterol.

The program will begin by adjusting your calorie intake, establishing the right meal plan, and boosting your metabolism in order to burn off extra fat. Dr. Sears has spent several years developing new ways to help those who are struggling with weight loss. With the Zone Diet, you will learn a variety of methods that will help you lower both your cholesterol and your weight. - 17273

Herniated Discs

By Dr. Jason Fowler

A 30-year-old mom bends over to pick up her four-year-old and feels a sharp stabbing pain in her lower back. A 60-year-old man bends over to pick up his five-year-old grandchild and he feels an electrical shooting pain in his lower back. For both, the pain is so severe they need to sit down.

The next day, both the mom and the grandfather notice they now have pain and numbness radiating down one leg. In addition, they are having trouble walking.

What is going on, how did it happen, and what can be done about it? First of all, a little basic anatomy is useful. Spinal discs are weight-bearing shock absorbers. They contain a gel-like ball-bearing center, which is surrounded by tough fibrous cartilage, arranged in concentric, criss-crossing circles.

As a person gets older, the discs naturally lose some of their water content. Cracks and fissures naturally develop in the fibrous cartilage. If a weight-bearing stress is unusual and unexpected, the gel-like material in the center of the disc can push through one of the fissures and possibly irritate a spinal nerve.

If enough of this material pushes through, the nerve can become inflamed and cause symptoms such as radiating pain and/or numbness, and possibly weakness, in one leg.

Typically, such pain and/or numbness can radiate down the leg, traveling below the knee and possibly into the foot.

Such symptoms, with or without back pain, are highly suggestive of an inflamed spinal nerve. The person will usually say the leg symptoms are much worse and of greater concern than any back pain that may be present.

If the MRI confirms the disc herniation and suggests an inflamed nerve, the diagnosis is complete. What is next?

In the best scenario, conservative treatment may be sufficient and the nerve inflammation improves with time. Anti-inflammatory medication may be helpful. Chiropractic conservative therapy may include physical therapeutic modalities and gentle trigger point therapy to relieve associated muscle spasms.

A spinal surgeon should be consulted to provide an additional opinion and input. If the pain is severe and there is neurologic loss, surgery may be the best option.

Of course, the best management is prevention. Pay attention to safe lifting procedures. Exercise regularly and get sufficient rest. Your chiropractor will be able to provide guidance and recommend effective protocols to help you achieve and maintain good health and wellness.

Your MMA Workouts Can Be a Waste of Time

By Gilson Barbarian Oliveira

Isometric strength is needed in all grappling styles and MMA competitions. Strikers would not benefit as much as grapplers due to the more dynamic nature of their arts, but some work is still needed for the clinching. But once you start competing in MMA tournaments, it should become part of your MMA training regime. At least, thats what I think.

It's very disappointing to notice that when trainers talk about static holds they only really talk about grip strength nothing else! Sure, depending of the exercise other muscle groups would come into play. But the importance of such training is never mentioned anywhere. How many articles on conditioning have you read that brought up the need for some isometric training? If you have, when did they tell you to you apply it? Im pretty sure that most of you never read anything about.

First, we need to understand what Isometric means. There are two phases known by us as concentric (when your muscle is shortening) and eccentric (when your muscle is lengthening). When you create TENSION in a muscle group without the two phases described above, your muscle is under a "Isometric" state. For example, if you attempted to push a wall, you wouldnt be able to move it but youd feel a huge amount of tension through you body as a result. This is called isometry!

In a fight, when you need to defend a takedown, you use your "underhook" to try to pick your opponent up while he is "weighing down on you. This, as we know, can take a long awhile. For as long as the fighters keep that position ("picking up" and "weighing down"), they are engaged in Isometric strength. Please, listen closely now...

If during this "struggle" for a better position, one side starts to be dominant (picking up or taking down) this shows pure strength coming from that fighter. Strength means you need to "fight" a resistance and win it, and it doesn't matter how long it takes to do it. As example, we have powerlifters. One attempt, no time frame for the lift...all they have to do is win the resistance! This is maximal strength (pure strength)

When you defend a takedown and your response is quick (right away you pick your opponent up) this shows a display of your power (strength + speed). But, if during your fight you are forced to defend yourself from endless takedown attempts, you will have to display not only strength (to pick him up) but endurance to sustain such activity through the rounds. For this, you will need strength-endurance. Remember one thing, if there is no need for speed you are NOT talking about power (strength + speed), only different types of strength.

You can see how so many abilities are necessary to a fighter to be REALLY ready for a match. I started with Isometric strength and was capable of showing you different types of strength needed using the same example, the takedown defense. But there is one very important ability to mention here if you are serious about your preparation. If I've been defending the takedowns during the whole fight successfully, I know I'm taping into my strength-endurance. But, what if I'm still capable of doing this quickly, every time? Then my friend, we are using power-endurance. Remember, if there is speed , there is power.

Can you understand the consequences if you leave one or more abilities out of your workout planning? I wish you success in your MMA training and positive results. I see you around, and thanks for your time. - 17273

4 Cons Of High Carbohydrate Dieting And Losing Arm Flab

By Katherine Crawford M.S.

Figuring the right nutritional approach for losing arm flab can be like finding a needle in a haystack. How so? Because with all the marketing campaigns out there the truth has been hidden amongst all the falsehoods.

Have you been having a hard time finding a nutritional strategy that works???

If so, many other women are feeling your pain. I believe that proper nutrition for getting toned arms has become very confusing. Not too long ago, I was very confused myself.

So here are 4 reasons why you shouldn't go on a high carb diet for arm flab loss:

1. Sugar addiction danger. If you have a sugar addiction, a high carb diet can be a slippery slope towards sugar bingeing. After all, most high carb foods have sugar in them. And once you open the floodgates, it can be very hard to stop.

2. Can increase insulin resistance. The research has shown time and again that those with insulin resistance do far better with lower carb diets. So if you're insulin resistant, high carb dieting is not for you.

3. Oscillating levels of hunger. If you eat a large amount of carbs you run the risk of taking your blood sugar for a roller coaster ride. Why? Because carbohydrates have the biggest impact on blood sugar levels. The best way to counteract this is with an enormous vegetable intake.

4. Extremely slow fat loss. Expect very very slow fat loss when doing a high carb diet. If you're looking for lightening quick results, then this type of diet is NOT for you.

Learning how to get rid of arm flab doesn't have to be hard. If you ignore all the marketing hype and focus on what is backed by research and experience, you'll do just fine. And if you're looking for fast arm toning then choose a diet with lower amounts of carbs. This will give you the best results. - 17273

What Are The Benefits Of A Natural Diet?

By Jose Bautista

A good health is based on the consumption of natural foods that provide the nutrients necessary for a good balance in the body. A high dose of energy is lost every day by the body, which fights against toxic substances. Choosing to follow a natural diet is the best you can do to eat healthy. By consuming natural foods, the harmful effects of chemical pollution are reduced.

The consumption of raw food has countless benefits for our health. Many products contain enzymes that help in digestion. A natural diet provides phytochemicals, whose effects on health are similar to those of vitamins and minerals. By cooking, most enzymes are destroyed.

Eat natural foods as much as possible. Make sure that at least half of your meals are composed of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Avoid prepared foods that contain additives, preservatives and chemicals.

A natural diet is rich in vitamins and minerals, being based on the consumption of fruit and vegetables. These foods are digested harder, so that the body needs a higher intake of energy to process them. This means that a person who follows a natural diet will never have weight problems. By eating whole grains, you'll be protected from any digestive problems and colon cancer. The best is to avoid processed cereals.

You can start anytime a natural diet. Changing your bad eating habits will have a great impact on your health. Besides fruits and vegetables, it's recommended to consume vegetable proteins, which can be found in soy, peanuts and seeds.

By following a natural diet, your energy and intellectual capacity will increase and you'll become more self confident. On long term, a natural diet reduces the risk of chronic diseases, protecting the body from cancers and other conditions. - 17273

Live Longer with Foods That Digest Easy

By by Dr. Lorna Mistranski

There is substantial research that shows a Mediterranean diet provides protection against type 2 diabetes.

Mediterranean meals are rich in olive oil, grains, fruits, nuts, vegetables, and fish, but have very little meat, dairy, or alcohol.

Studies hint that such a diet plays a major role in cardiovascular disease, however, there are not any current studies in how this diet effects the diabetic population.

The study involved over 13,000 graduates from the University of Navarra in Spain with no history of diabetes, and were recruited between December 1999 and November 2007;each participant had their dietary habits and health were tracked.

To start the study off, the graduates all completed a questionnaire designed by the developers of the project. The questions were summarized at 136 and asked the participants specific questions that related to how they cooked, what types of oils they used, and their dietary supplements.

The 13,000 participants were tracked by a questionnaire that was administered every two years and asked questions about thier lifestyle, eating habits, and overall medical conditions. From this, researchers were able to pick up new cases of diabetes.

The average follow up period turned out to be 4 years and researchers found that the subjects who stuck closely to the diet had a lower risk of diabetes. The diet was associated with an 83% relative reduction in the risk of developing diabetes.

Interestingly, those participants who stuck strictly to the diet were expected to have the highest prevalence of risk factors for diabetes such as they got older with age, a family history of diabetes, and a higher proportion of ex-smokers.

This did not happen. In fact the participants had a lower risk of diabetes which suggested that the diet might provide substantial protection.

The characteristics of the diet include a high intake of fiber and vegetable fat, a low intake of trans fatty acids, and a moderate intake of alcohol.

A primary element in this diet is the abundant use of virgin oil for cooking, frying, spreading on bread, and dressing salads.

The researchers concluded by calling for larger members and trials to confirm their findings. - 17273
