Vitamin D Deficiency and Its Harmful Effects

By Stephen Gerrard

A deficiency of vitamin D is a true problem that will lead to issues such as bone structure weakness, joint pain, and general fatigue. In elderly people this can easily lead to broken hips!

It can also lead to the development of hypertension, high levels of sugar in the blood and increases highly the risks of suffering from diabetes and heart disease in turn.

But you'll be wrong if you think only elderly people are the only ones who can have problems with a deficiency of this kind. Children are also big candidates to have problems, especially when they are small.

Small children and infants with a vitamin D deficiency will develop bowed legs, a condition known as rickets. They will also be prone to develop diabetes and obesity problems later in life. It is not their fault.

Nowadays it is very common to see a child in their house all day, sitting in front of the computer or the TV screen. Even if they go outside parents use a lot of sunscreen, hindering their ability to receive the benefits from sunlight, and of course, vitamin D.

I have read countless articles on the importance of sunscreen and harmful effects of the Sun, but we need sunlight to be healthy!

Specialists recommend getting 15 minutes of sunlight each day to improve our health levels. Of course you have to take this responsibly. Do not wear sunscreen as it will hinder the action of sunlight. Supplements are available but they can easily lead to toxicity problems.

The idea is that we get sunlight with moderation, and smartly. Sunlight in excess - like many things - will be harmful.

Doctors will always prefer that you get the right amounts of vitamin through normal channels. In reality we wouldn't need any supplements if we have a good diet and healthy lifestyle, our bodies are naturally built to acquire vitamins through life. - 17273
