In A Healthy Kitchen - American Brands Are Best

By Nick Jaggs

This is a very bold statement to be made when you look at some of the aspects involved in American manufacturing. If you look at their automotive industry the cars that they now produce aren't world class today. However, in the kitchen for those who lead a raw food lifestyle or those who care about health and nutrition then buying American made kitchen equipment is vital.

Any raw foodists or health enthusiast will expect a great deal more from the gadgets that they have in their kitchen compared to the average household. In some cases they may use their juicer also as a kettle. Plus the blender they use will need to be able to cope with more demanding tasks and be used regularly.

Whilst a food dryer or dehydrator is often used more than the oven in the kitchen is, it preserves nutrients using low temperatures so providing the person with a wide array of nutritious things to eat. For anyone who is considering purchasing some equipment in order to make these kinds of changes in their lifestyle then there are a number of things that need to be considered when selecting the appropriate kitchen equipment.

Of course value for money is an important consideration especially over the long term. Typically one would expect to pay 2 or 4 times as much for an American made blender, juicer or dehydrator, but over the long term the returns you get from these machines when used in a healthy kitchen makes the most economical. Yes you want equipment that will last but you also want equipment that can tackle more demanding tasks and this is where the American made equipment outshines the normal kitchen appliances one can purchase.

The average juicer just doesn't have the capabilities to be able to find nuts into butters for you or to make an instant sorbet from frozen fruit. Yet the Champion Juicer from California is able to deal with these kinds of tasks very easily. However, this isn't cheap to buy, but when you take into consideration what it is capable of and how durable this piece of equipment is, then you can see the price is very affordable indeed.

Don't expect the blender you got in your local electrical store to be able to create flour from dried chick peas in less than 1/2 minute or to create a vegetable or raw fibrous greens smooth soup, because they can't. These machines don't have the capability and within a few weeks of using one in such a fashion it will begin to fail. This however is not what will happen with the American VitaMix or Blendtec blenders.

Raw fooders who fail to recognize the above fact in the beginning will end up wasting considerable amounts of money on some normal domestic blenders before they realize that the American ones we mention offer them in the long term better value for money. If you are after versatility and variety where food is concerned a food dehydrator that can create dried snacks and recipes is to be considered. There are many machines available but the Excalibur Dehydrator from California is not only far superior to many other models but it is much larger as well.

When it comes to juicers there is one that stands out from the rest in this area and that is the Champion Juicer. This comes with the statement as part of its branding that it is "the world's finest juicer" and is something that many would agree with. I myself have had Champion Juicer for more than 20 years and when I replaced it recently with the new black version I gave the original one to my son. Although it may not look quite as good as it did when it first came out of the box it still works as good as if it were new.

What other juicers are there available that you can say have been used regularly for over 20 years and still work like it had just come out of its packaging. Plus it hasn't just been used as a juicer. Regularly frozen raspberries and bananas have been rammed through it to create not just a delicious but healthy fruit ice cream. In the last 50 years more than a million of these juicers have been sold the world over. More would have been sold if the company had remembered to use the "built in obsolescence" that other brand managers will include with their products today. The Champion Juicer is available in the UK today in a choice of four colours and can be purchased through UK Juicers Ltd (www.ukjuicers.com).

Although the Blendtec Total Blender is not readily available in the UK you may have already seen it when it appeared on the "Friday Night With Jonathan Ross" show. Here the machine was put to the ultimate test when Jonathan Ross placed a mobile phone in it and blended it with ease. Along with this demonstration of the food blenders power the manufacturer's website shows several videos where this American food blender actually designed for blending food is used to blend other things including a lava lamp and baseball. These videos may be overstating the power of this over engineered piece of kitchen equipment, but it provides you with the assurance that the money you spend on it will ensure that this piece of equipment won't be troubled by the kinds of tasks raw fooders will expect of this type of kitchen equipment, unlike the normal domestic blenders you can buy.

Dehydrating allows you to create a range of healthy foods with gentle heat such as fruits, fruit leathers, energy bars, crackers, vegetables meals and complete meals that an outdoor enthusiast can carry with them. Not only does this equipment help to keep more of the foods nutrients within them but it enables you to store them for much longer. Aficionados of these dehydrators soon learn that the best ones are those that offer horizontal air flow drying like that found in a fan oven, instead of the stacking tray kinds. These ones dry out the food less evenly and to ensure that everything does get dried out evenly during the drying process you will need to move the trays up and down.

The Excalibur Dehydrator which is made in Sacramento, California for more than 30 years now is one of the most reliable on the market today. It comes from a part of the US where seasonal produce is readily available and where people still like to prepare and store foods in their homes for future use using traditional methods. To get hold of the Excalibur Dehydrator and other kinds of American health food machines mentioned they are being imported into the UK by health enthusiasts at UK Juicers.

You may find it a little hard to understand why I as a Brit should be recommending you as a health enthusiast look at purchasing these appliances rather than homemade ones. But for performance and one that will provide long term value you should only be considering these American brands as they will deliver on what you need from them. - 17273
