How To Treat Hemorrhoids Fast

By Olivia Campbell-Price

Many people suffer from hemorrhoids. But there are ways that you can treat this problem. If you have a chronic problem that seems to cause hemorrhoids all the time, then a visit to the doctor to discuss how to treat hemorrhoids that you have will be necessary. Your doctor may recommend one or more procedures including surgery to get rid of them.

First there is a treatment that is done outpatient, called rubber band ligation. Basically in this procedure, the hemorrhoids will have a rubber ligature placed right above them. As this cuts off the supply of blood going to the hemorrhoid it will die and fall off. Once that happens all your body will do is have to heal up the area where the hemorrhoid has fallen off from.

Two ways that a hemorrhoid can be physically removed is through hemorrhoidolysis and sclerotherapy. In hemorrhoidolysis, the hemorrhoid is zapped with an electrical current and in sclerotherapy, a substance is injected into the hemorrhoid that causes it to harden and die.

Cryosurgery or freezing hemorrhoid in order to remove it, is not used as frequently any longer as it was determined to cause undesirable side effects. It can still be used but under limited conditions. Lasers can also be used to remove hemorrhoids, but as other options become available, this too is less popular.

Hemorrhoidectomy is more invasive and are done under anesthesia. There are two types of this surgery. The first one involves the complete removal of hemorrhoidal tissue. However, further research as shown that this surgery may cause incontinence later in life. With a stapled hemorrhoidectomy, the blood flow to hemorrhoids is inhibited by surgically folding the tissue to the dentate line. These two procedures are generally used for difficult cases of internal hemorrhoids.

Though some of these procedures sound a bit difficult to recover from, they really aren't that bad. In most cases your doctor will use the surgery or treatment that will be easiest on your body. The easier procedures to recover from are of course the least invasive ones. If you have any questions or concerns don't be afraid to ask the doctor before you undergo one of these options.

If surgery to remove hemorrhoids is not for you, then you may want to explore more natural avenues for how to treat hemorrhoids. Generally speaking, making improvements to your diet such as increasing the intake of fiber and water can help with keeping your bowel movements regular and less painful. Constipation is the leading cause of hemorrhoids, so this is important as is keeping active to reduce unnecessary pressure on hemorrhoidal tissue. - 17273
