The Explanation Why Acai Berries May Help You Drop Weight

The mighty acai berry that is grown only in the rainforests of Brazil is a nutritional powerhouse. If you have read any of the investigation on this little berry you will see that there are claims ranging from weight loss to disease prevention to anti-aging.

Does this tiny, little berry in reality live up to its excessive claims? The answer is a unqualified "yes" and more and more scientific studies are back it up.

The acai berry has a surplus of extremely robust nutrients including antioxidants, essential fatty acids, phytosterols and dietary fiber. It has been found to be one of the most nourishing foods ever found in nature.

Still, the thrilling news for weight loss and disease deterrence is that the acai berry is loaded with enormously vigorous flavonoids called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are the water-soluble vacuolar pigments that are accountable for the deep red, purple and blue colors of some of the healthiest foods on the earth.

This is the pigment that makes red grapes that deep reddish purple color, blueberries the deep blue almost iridescent black color and purple cabbage purple. This pigment is also plentiful in blackberries, eggplant, purple corn, red wine, cherries and strawberries. The acai berry has one of the uppermost anthocyanin contents found in nature.

Anthocyanins were found to thwart fatness in laboratory mice in a few recent scientific studies. In the studies the mice were fed a high-fat diet. One group was given purified anthocyanins from blueberries and strawberries. The group given the anthocyanins in fact gained less weight and achieved a lower body fat level than the control groupl

An remarkable note is that another group that was fed the actual strawberries and blueberries did not achieve the same consequence and that group of mice may have even had more size. While it is unclear if the effect of the anthocyanins found in these mice translates to humans the fact is that this robust flavonoid is extremely healthy and healthful regardless.

While these interesting studies do not constitute genuine proof and every individual must come to their own conclusions, these studies may perhaps explain why persons have had so much victory with weight loss by using acai berry products. As the acai berry is exceedingly perishable it must be processed quickly to protect the nutrients and therefore many of the acai berry products may actually contain a more purified form of the vigorous anthocyanins. - 17273
