Diabetes Prevention Info

By Jake Ryan

One of the first things you can do if you think you are at risk of diabetes is take an online diabetes screening. It is also important that you talk to your physician about your diabetes risks. However, there are methods you can take to help to prevent diabetes.

One of the first signs of diabetes is having high blood sugar levels. When you have high blood sugar you should change your diet, exercise more, try to relax, and take medication if necessary. If you catch this condition in a pre-diabetes state it is possible to not get full on diabetes.

One of the reasons that many people are getting diabetes is because of the terrible american diets. They are high in sugar and carbohydrates and high levels of carbs turn into sugar. The pancreas then has to work a lot harder to create the necessary insulin to deal with the sugar. Additionally, the poor eating habits can cause obesity and it is a leading factor of diabetes.

A study at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine has also linked obesity with type two diabetes. Research performed on mice in a laboratory found that when mice were obese it interfered with their ability to transport glucose.

When you exercise the body actively works to use more glucose, this means that while exercising your blood sugar levels will drop, which is a good thing. In addition, by adding just thirty minutes of walking a day you can burn more calories and begin losing weight. Both of which are great diabetes preventions.

Sometimes a doctor will subscribe medication that lowers insulin resistance. These cases vary from person to person so talk to your doctor about these options. - 17273
