Can You Tell Me Why I Bruise So Easily?

By Carolyn Cooper

If you ever occasionally just move around and find a bruise on your arm that you have no recollection of getting, or if it appears that each and every little ding, and every minor bit of pressure ends up as unsightly black and blue blotches spread over your arms and legs, you're probably wondering what is going on? The facts are that many people are afflicted by bruising easily, to the point where they are not even certain themselves where that bruise came from. If this is a situation that you consistently endure, you'll discover that there is a multitude of things that you should always be cognizant of.

The first thing that you should remember when you are trying to determine why you might bruise so easily is the source of your bruises in the first place. Bruises are generally caused by blunt force applied to a particular part of your body. Although the skin may not be broken, the force is sufficient to damage the capillaries beneath your skin. The blood from these injured capillaries will bleed out, and this is what causes the color of the bruises. Your skin tone will have a great deal to do with what variety of colors you will exhibit when you bruise.

Holding these thoughts in one's mind, you'll likely find yourself pondering why you bruise much easier than the people around you, or just why you seem to bruise darker and easier than you ever did now that you've gotten older. The facts are that injured capillaries likely form the bottom line for many of the people who bruise easily. As we mature, the walls of our capillaries in our body, which are located just beneath the skin, can become more subject to injury, and these capillaries which are only protected by a thin layer of skin will be the most subject to breakage. This is why so many people discover that they tend to bruise more easily as they continue to age.

If you are someone who has a low amount of body fat (most folks would consider you lucky), you will find that it makes you easier to bruise as well. For instance, you will soon discover that fat is something that actually cushions your body against injury, and that having a reasonable amount on your body can be ideal when you want to make sure that you are protected.

An important consideration for you to understand might be the fact that bruising that occurs without any rational reason can be an indicator of a serious illness or disease. In that situation, if you have any concern that the bruising is coming out of nowhere, you should seriously consider that it would be in your best interests to speak to a doctor as quickly as possible; as this can be a sign of a coagulant disorder or even an indicator of some forms of cancer.

Take some time, and really learn about what bruising really is, and why it might be happening to you. Do you know what is going in with your body, and have you considered how it might affect you in the long run? Be aware of your own health and what you need to do if you want to deal with bruises that happen too easily and too frequently. - 17273
