How Is Cinnamon Good For Type 2 Diabetes?

By Jake Ryan

Cinnamon has been on everyone's diet discussion lately. It has been the new wonder ingredient to add to your diet because of its healthy benefits. But the questions remains, Is cinnamon good for type 2 diabetes?

Your glucose and cholesterol levels have been reported to be effected by cinnamon if you suffer type 2 diabetes. Your glucose levels are the main factor in why you have been troubled by diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes is caused by your body's unstable levels of blood sugar. It is not uncommon to need medicine to help manage this, but most of it can be handled by a healthy diet. Most would like to handle their diabetes without medicine and would prefer to handle it through their diet. Is cinnamon something that can help maintain their health?

There has been a lot of research to see how a diabetic's diet is effected by the addition of cinnamon in the diet. A lot of the studies have shown an decrease in glucose levels with the addition of cinnamon in their diets. However, even with the research that has been completed the information is still inconclusive and will need more tests.

There have been reports that cinnamon has the same effects that insulin has. What cinnamon really does is help your body process glucose more efficiently. This is the main concern for maintaining a healthy body with diabetes.

The key to managing your Type 2 Diabetes is to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine. This centers around your diet being balanced and full of the nutrients that you need. That means that you need to have a diet that is high in low fat proteins, nutrient rich fruits and vegetables, and complex carbohydrates. Typically, carbohydrates are the most difficult aspect of this diet revamping to manage. That is because there are two different types of carbohydrates, and it is easy to get them confused. Simple carbs are processed white flours and sugars. Whereas complex carbohydrates are more whole grains that are harder for your bodies systems to process. This ensures that your body is having to work harder to digest these while also providing yourself with a more long lasting energy source.

It is tough to answer the question, Is cinnamon good for type 2 diabetes. It has been shown to help in a type 2 diabetes diet. However, the results are inconclusive but they have not been harmful. With all the positive benefits it has shown from research it would be something to ask your doctor and test for yourself. - 17273
