Yeast Free Diets - Is It Okay To Eat Pita Bread?

By Matt Bournston

Have you recently started on a yeast free diet? Or are you thinking of starting on one? Whichever of those applies to you, you're probably wondering about various foods and whether or not they are okay to eat on a yeast free diet. Many people wonder about pita bread, since pita bread doesn't appear to rise up quite like normal bread does. So the question is: does it contain yeast?

Well, the answer is, yes, normal pita bread does in fact contain yeast. However, you need not despair, as there are alternative pita breads that you can buy that are free from it, or you can indeed make your own. Here is a great recipe for you to try.

Ingredients:

* 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil

* 1 cup soy flour

* 1 cup unbleached white flour

* 1 and a half cups of distilled or purified water

* 1/2 tsp baking powder

* A dash of sea salt

Note: If you are using a gluten free flour in your mixture, make sure you also add an egg as well, as this will replace the gluten that binds together the mixture.

How to Make the Pita Bread:

1. Mix the water, olive oil and the salt. Add the flour and the baking powder, and mix into a smooth consistency similar to a pancake mix.

2. Rub inside of frying pan with a paper towel dipped in olive oil. Let frying pan sit for 10 minutes.

3. Place the frying pan onto the hob at a medium-low temperature, and wait for 3 minutes and then tip the batter into the middle of the frying pan.

4. Tilt the frying pan in a circular movement until the entire bottom of it is covered with a reasonable thickness of the batter mixture.

5. Once the top of the mixture has gone dry, flip it over and cook the other side. This should take about a minute on each side.

6. Eat it.
