Fibromyalgia - Treatment And Various Symptoms

By Pat Colapinto

Fibromyalgia is a medical disorder which comes with symptoms of widespread pain and a particularly painful response to gentle touch. There are a number of other symptoms associated with the disorder such as abnormal fatigue, insomnia and stiffness of the joints. In its more severe cases, they can also be abnormalities in the function of the bowel and bladder and patients can even have difficulty swallowing or breathing.

The condition is considered to be controversial due to the fact that it cannot be isolated so easily and has not been proven by any laboratory tests. Some doctors and scientists do not even consider it to the disease at all and tend to associate the symptoms with other illnesses.

Recognition of the disorder has risen in recent times and many clinics to actively research the condition to try to set it apart from others. There are various forms of treatment that can help the problem go away to some extent, although there is no permanent cure. Rheumatology clinics are alerted to the problem and they may be able to help.

Although women tend to be affected by the disease more than men, fibromyalgia can affect just about anyone. Most commonly occurring after thirty-five years of age, it can also affect children although it is rare. It is believed that approximately four and a half per cent of the people in the United Kingdom suffer from this condition.

Those who think they might be suffering from a condition should go to their doctors as soon as possible. It is often difficult to get an accurate diagnosis of the condition due to the fact that the symptoms are extremely diverse and may the symptoms of another condition. It is still of utmost importance however that you go to the doctor, since the symptoms you are experiencing may be down to another cause which is easily diagnosed. - 17273
